Senior Cloud Database Engineer - GCP & AI/GenAI Platform Strategy
Overview / Summary
We are seeking a Senior Cloud Database Engineer to join the Platform Engineering team with a focus on defining strategy, architecture, and standardized patterns for cloud databases on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This role is responsible for shaping the database platform vision and roadmap, establishing best-practice patterns, and integrating AI/GenAI capabilities into how teams design, build, and operate data systems. The position serves as a technical leader, enabling scalable, secure, and intelligent database usage across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
• Define strategy, architecture, and standardized patterns for cloud databases on GCP.
• Shape the vision and roadmap for the database platform.
• Establish best-practice implementation patterns and platform standards.
• Lead adoption of Gemini Enterprise for database engineering productivity, including query writing, debugging, and optimization.
• Define patterns for integrating Model Context Protocol (MCP) with databases for contextual AI interactions.
• Identify and implement AI-driven automation opportunities across the database lifecycle, including capacity planning, anomaly detection, and performance tuning.
• Partner with AI/ML teams to embed GenAI capabilities into data platforms.
• Define an enterprise-wide approach for metadata management using Dataplex and Knowledge Catalog.
• Establish standards for tagging, classification, lineage, and data discoverability.
• Align database platform strategy with data governance, compliance, and data quality frameworks.
• Enable a data-as-a-product approach through well-documented and discoverable datasets.
• Act as a technical advisor to engineering, data, and AI teams.
• Drive adoption of platform standards through documentation, workshops, and enablement programs.
• Promote platform-first and AI-assisted development practices.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to technical communities of practice.
Required Qualifications
• Hands-on experience or strong familiarity with Gemini Enterprise or similar AI-assisted engineering tools.
