Job Summary:

Responsible for the direction and the team that manages the performance, integrity, and security of all Microsoft and Oracle databases. Vendor relationship and license compliance management are key aspects of the position.

Job Description:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties as assigned):

  • Identifies and leads database initiatives, including upgrades, new technology and processes (e.g., patches, compliance, security), and new roles; engages the appropriate cross functional technical resources to determine solutions, recommend outcomes and drive project plan through to timely completion.
  • Establish strategies, policies and guidelines to ensure optimal performance and availability of Microsoft and Oracle databases
  • Establishes proactive performance maintenance practices through patch management, index creation, and database optimization minimizing disruptions for the business users.
  • Ensures that the department processes are adhered to: Incident Management Process - ensuring that incidents are resolved as quickly as possible; SDLC & Change Management Processes - ensuring the IT General Controls are followed for Sarbanes Oxley compliance; Compliance with company's data security policies.
  • Leads the planning process for data capacity, scalability, and replication.
  • Establish processes for the analysis, testing, and implementation of database design supporting various business applications.
  • Conduct application transaction volume and traffic analysis assessing the impact of database performance. Monitor database growth and usage to ensure optimum performance and stability in production environment.
  • Responsible for logical and physical database design, implementation of data model, backup and recovery strategy including disaster recovery, load strategy design and implementation, and security management.
  • Establish and ensure query optimization processes are in place.
  • Establish an archive and retirement strategy for data as required by the business.
  • Model, design, implement and maintain data structures for enterprise data warehouse or data marts.
  • Ensure that licenses are in compliance as stated in license agreements.
  • Lead and recommend upgrades to database systems and management tools.
  • Team with the Infrastructure and Operations groups ensuring that hardware/operating system patches are applied timely to maximize server availability.
  • Participate as a team member in all phases of project development lifecycle. This includes, but is not limited to, interactions with business customers and the technical teams to plan for server replacements or implementations.
  • Mentor and direct junior DBA and other IT personnel in database best practices.
  • Manages third party and contract maintenance resources.

SCOPE & IMPACT:

This position will support the mission critical databases including JD EnterpriseOne, KRONOS, and Lawson which impact productivity and functionality throughout the enterprise, impacting our ability to manufacture and sell La-Z-Boy products.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field with 6-8 of experience including 1-3 years of supervisory/leadership experience or equivalent.
  • Proven experience with database concepts/design/deployment, recovery techniques, performance monitoring and tuning, Structured Query Language (SQL), and relational database design techniques.
  • Experience with Windows Server and SQL clustering.
  • System development lifecycle.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Solid teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to work well on cross-functional project teams and foster team commitment to tasks
  • Strong customer focus and management of client expectations.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills.
  • Strong relationship management skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict management skills.
  • Ability to work outside office hours/ non-scheduled work hours as required.
  • Ability to travel 10 - 15% as required by project, task, assignment or educational enhancement.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous experience managing a team.
  • Experience designing/implementing relational database solutions. Experience managing technical projects using project management disciplines.
  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle administration and tools.
