Job description

Job Description
This position will be for an entry level Engineer within the Datacenter Engineering Group. Our Group focuses on the delivery of large-scale platform solutions running across both public (AWS and GCP) and private cloud environments (VMware and Openshift). This engineer will have exposure to or hands-on experience with DevOps tools such as Git, Ansible, Terraform, Python, and Gitlab so they can develop repeatable patterns and solutions. In addition to having a solid core infrastructure foundation this position will also require the engineer to be a scrappy and creative problem solver willing to dive in wherever is needed. This role requires a blend of strong foundational infrastructure knowledge, modern application technologies, DevSecOps mindset, and Site Reliability Engineering principles.

Position Compensation Range:

$80,000.00 - $131,000.00

Primary Accountabilities

  • Participate in on-call rotation, perform incident triage, including determining scope, urgency, and potential impact.

  • Makes recommendations and build automation that enable expeditious remediation.

  • Proven abilities to learn new technology and processes.

  • Participate in technology evaluations and re-engineering activities to support continuous improvement activities.

  • Provides consistent documentation for design decisions, estimating assumptions, code modules, and performance metrics as required by organization standards.

  • Prepares and participates in platform, code, and documentation walkthroughs.

  • Collaborates with others regarding effectiveness of systems flow, data usage and manual or automated processes to verify system functionality.

  • Ensures software development meets standards for programming, design, performance, quality, and security. Identifies and recommends areas for improvement in planning, design, development, and testing.

  • Analyze and interpret performance data such as CPU, Memory, Storage.

  • Develop and maintain automation run-books for on-prem & cloud environments using tools such as, Terraform & Ansible.

  • Participate in large scale resiliency solutions, data protection and disaster recovery solutions.

  • Understanding and lifecycle management of enterprise operating systems through golden images, patching, and system hardening.

  • Own small-to-medium automation tasks within larger projects with guidance from Senior/Lead Engineers.


Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements
Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service
Basic knowledge and understanding of integration and migration strategies and technologies.
Basic knowledge and understanding of application architecture, design alternatives, and development standards.
Demonstrated experience developing complex software/systems using one or more programming language.
Demonstrated experience interpreting, modifying and writing application system design and program specifications.
Demonstrated experience using and supporting integration and communications technologies between applications, databases and technology platforms.
Demonstrated experience using relational databases and standard query language (SQL).
Solid knowledge and understanding of systems development life cycle (SDLC).
Solid knowledge and understanding of activities, tasks, tools and techniques for testing applications to ensure adherence to functional and quality requirements.

Preferred:

  • 1 - 3 years of relevant experience, including internships, co-ops, or other verifiable academic projects and work.

  • Should have working knowledge and some experience across hyper-scale platforms such as VMware, AWS, Redhat Openshift, or Google Cloud.

  • Foundational system administration (Operating Systems, configuration, installations, patch management, server maintenance, etc.) and Network Foundations (firewalls, proxies, IP management, routing, DNS)

  • Understanding of Operating System hardening practices as well as methodologies for templating deployments from a set of standardized images

  • Experience establishing, using and supporting integration and communication protocols between applications, databases, and technology platforms.

  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, micro-services, and similar endpoints so you can configure, extract data and experiment with automation.

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of application architecture, design alternatives, and development standards.

  • Experience in agentic platforms such as Anthropic Claude

  • Demonstrated experience communicating technical information.

  • Understanding of security best practices, secure coding practices, secrets management, certificates and certificate management

  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following: Python, Linux, Shell, Bash or other programming languages.

  • Participate in agile processes, working assigned stories through each sprint adjusting as necessary while collaborating with your team.

  • Proficiency in Git/Gitlab source code control, branching, bug, and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Understands resilient system design, high availability, and disaster recovery methodologies to ensure system reliability and business continuity.

  • Familiarity with container platforms, Kubernetes, Openshift platforms.

  • Curiosity, humility and open-mindedness with a deep sense of pride in your work.
