Job DescriptionUnder the supervision of the Mission Programs Manager, the Traveling Employment Specialist will provide employment services, case management, workforce development, employer engagement, and community outreach through Goodwill's Mission Mobile Bus and other community-based service locations. The Traveling Employment Specialist will serve as a direct link between individuals facing barriers to employment and the resources necessary to achieve economic self-sufficiency.
This position will deliver mobile workforce services, conduct participant assessments, develop employment plans, facilitate SNAP and benefit outreach, engage employers, create job opportunities, and assist with the operation and delivery of services through the Mission Mobile Bus, a 28-foot, wheelchair-accessible vehicle equipped with internet connectivity that is designed to provide individuals throughout Goodwill’s twenty-county service region with access to job search assistance and other related resources. The Traveling Employment Specialist will serve as both a workforce development professional and a community outreach representative, bringing services directly to underserved communities throughout Goodwill's service area. Essential duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Employment and Workforce Development Services
- Conduct participant recruitment, intake, assessment, and enrollment activities.
- Develop and maintain individualized employment and service plans.
- Provide case management services and ongoing support to assigned participants.
- Assist participants in identifying career goals, employment barriers, and support service needs.
- Conduct vocational assessments and employment readiness evaluations.
- Provide job search assistance, resume development, interview preparation, and career coaching.
- Assist participants in obtaining employment, training opportunities, industry credentials, and supportive services.
- Monitor participant progress toward employment and self-sufficiency goals.
- Provide job retention and post-employment follow-up services.
- Maintain participant files, case notes, progress reports, and required documentation.
- Complete monthly reports, outcome tracking, and program documentation requirements.
Employer Engagement and Business Development
- Develop and maintain relationships with local employers, workforce partners, educational institutions, and community organizations.
- Identify employment opportunities, internships, job shadowing experiences, work-based learning opportunities, and career pathways for participants.
- Conduct employer outreach and recruit businesses to participate in hiring events, job fairs, and workforce initiatives.
- Serve as a liaison between employers, participants, referral agencies, and Goodwill staff.
- Assist employers with identifying accommodations, supports, and workforce solutions when appropriate.
- Maintain employer databases and document employer contacts and outcomes.
- Represent Goodwill at networking events, workforce meetings, business forums, and community events.
- Promote Goodwill workforce development services and employment programs to employers and community stakeholders.
Mission Mobile Operations and Community Outreach
- Operate and drive the Mission Mobile Bus to designated outreach locations throughout the service area.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and ensure safe operation of the Mission Mobile Bus.
- Assist with setup, operation, maintenance, and breakdown of mobile service equipment and technology.
- Deliver workforce development, employment, and supportive service programming from the Mission Mobile Bus.
- Conduct street outreach and engagement activities targeting underserved populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness, unemployment, substance use disorder, justice involvement, and other barriers to employment.
- Provide information and referrals regarding employment services, SNAP benefits, education, housing resources, recovery services, healthcare, and community supports.
- Assist participants in completing SNAP applications, benefit screenings, and other public assistance applications.
- Coordinate outreach schedules, community events, resource fairs, and service delivery locations.
- Maintain inventory, supplies, records, and operational readiness of the Mission Mobile Bus.
- Ensure compliance with all vehicle safety, agency, and program requirements.
Community Collaboration
- Build and maintain partnerships with community service providers, government agencies, recovery organizations, educational institutions, and workforce partners.
- Participate in coordinated outreach efforts and multidisciplinary service teams.
- Assist with community needs assessments and program evaluation activities.
- Support grant objectives, performance outcomes, and reporting requirements.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.
Other Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned to support Mission Services programs and organizational objectives.
- Associate’s Degree (minimum two-year degree) in Human Services, Psychology, Education, Business, Public Administration, or related field required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Relevant experience working with the general public, customer service, case management, workforce development, or community-based services may be considered in combination with education.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
- Must be able to work a flexible work schedule as dictated by community outreach engagements, including evenings and weekends as needed.
- Must be able to pass criminal background check and drug screen.
- Must be 25 years of age or older.
- Beginning rate of pay is $19 per hour.
- Full-time position.
- Position requires frequent, local travel in the Mission Mobile Bus to various community outreach engagements, so the ability to work a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed is required.
