Position Title: Database Administrator
Contract Duration: Direct Hire

The ERP Database Administrator (DBA) is a senior technical role within the Division of Information Technology (DoIT), reporting to the Director of Enterprise Applications (EAS). This position is responsible for leading the administration, optimization, and support of the Ellucian Banner ERP system, including all modules, database operations, and related applications. The DBA ensures high performance, security, and reliability of the Banner environment across production and testing instances, while also supporting business intelligence tools such as ARGOS. Key responsibilities include leading upgrades, installations, and integrations with functional units across the university, collaborating with service providers and internal teams, and advising campus leadership on system capabilities and process improvements. The DBA plays a critical role in project management, change control, disaster recovery, and technical mentoring, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and strategic goals.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead administration and support of Ellucian Banner applications and databases, as well as other enterprise applications and databases.
  • Manage all Banner modules, multiple Banner instances (production and testing), and ensure optimal database performance and tuning.
  • Support business intelligence tools (e.g., ARGOS) and associated reporting databases.
  • Coordinate the installation, upgrade, and integration of new applications with functional offices including Budget and Planning, Accounting, Financial Aid, Registrar, Enrollment Management, and others.
  • Partner with service providers to monitor performance, manage backups and recovery, and validate disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  • Manage automated scheduling tools, maintain Oracle database security, assist with Banner application security, and ensure comprehensive audit trails.
  • Assign and oversee tasks for junior staff, serve as a technical resource for analysts, programmers, and power users, and provide guidance to the Director as needed.
  • Act as a key technical contributor during software deployments, upgrades, and development initiatives, ensuring seamless integration and stability.
  • Serve as a project manager or coordinator on cross-functional project teams.
  • Provide input on end-user training, service design, metrics, monitoring, and change control processes.
  • Train and mentor junior technical and student staff, and support special projects as required.

Qualifications:
  • Advanced technical proficiency in Ellucian Banner and Oracle database systems.
  • Expertise in Oracle SQL, including query optimization, database tuning, configuration, and advanced query development.
  • Practical experience in data exchange, transformation, and integration across systems.
  • Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), including technical design, unit testing, user acceptance testing, and production deployment.
  • Familiarity with change control procedures, compliance standards, and best practices for maintaining software stability and data integrity.
  • Proven ability to train and mentor junior technical staff to foster team growth and collaboration.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Exceptional customer service orientation, proactive mindset, and a diligent, responsible work ethic.

Education:
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field with three (3) years of progressive related experience
  • Or a bachelor's degree in a related field with five (5) years of progressive experience, or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience.
