Job description

We are seeking a skilled and collaborative Database Engineer to join our team and help support the infrastructure behind our industry-leading software solutions. At Checkwriters, we combine innovative software with an unmatched commitment to client service and are passionate about delivering the best payroll and HR experience to our clients throughout the country.

The Database Engineer ensures consistent availability, reliability, and performance of Checkwriters software through effective management of our database systems and related infrastructure. This role works closely with our Development and IT teams to support, maintain, secure, and improve the Checkwriters database environment across both on-premises and cloud deployments. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, collaborating across teams, and continuously improving systems and processes in a fast-paced software environment.

What You’ll Do:

  • Maintain and support SQL Server database environments across on-premises and cloud deployments.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize database and system performance in collaboration with Development and IT teams.
  • Collaborate on database schema design, infrastructure improvements, and cloud migration initiatives.
  • Implement and maintain database backup, high availability, disaster recovery, and security practices.
  • Utilize and improve database deployment, source control, and infrastructure-as-code processes.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on scalability, automation, performance, and reliability.

What You Bring:

  • Experience managing and supporting SQL Server database environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience with modern development and infrastructure tools such as Git and Terraform.
  • Understanding of database performance optimization, backup strategies, and security best practices.
