The Assistant Women's Basketball Coach is a part-time position responsible for assisting the Head Women's Basketball Coach with all aspects of operating a successful NCAA Division III women's basketball program. This position assists with coaching, recruiting, player development, and retention while serving as a key contributor to the day-to-day basketball operations of the program. The Assistant Coach will take ownership of various operational responsibilities, including but not limited to recruiting organization, travel coordination, equipment management, game day operations, program administration, and other functions that support the success of the Women's Basketball program. The Assistant Coach will contribute to a positive student-athlete experience while supporting the mission of Westminster College, the philosophy of NCAA Division III athletics, and the goals of the Women's Basketball program.

Requirements

Essential Functions:

The statements below are intended to describe the principal duties of the person or persons assigned to this job. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties and responsibilities.

Basketball Operations & Program Administration

Serve as a primary support staff member for the day-to-day basketball operations of the Women's Basketball program, including but not limited to:

  • Assist with recruiting organization and database management.
  • Lead team travel coordination and provide support for scheduling and operational planning.
  • Lead all game-day operations including but not limited, jersey prep, game day set up, equipment set up, etc.ย 
  • Provide budget support, purchasing coordination, and maintenance of program organizational systems at the director of the head coach.ย 
  • Assist with camps, clinics, fundraising initiatives, community engagement activities, and other administrative responsibilities as assigned.

Coaching & Player Development

  • Assist in planning, organizing, and conducting practices, workouts, and skill development sessions.
  • Assist with game preparation, scouting reports, film breakdown, and opponent analysis.
  • Support game-day coaching responsibilities during competition (i.e., stats collection).
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of team culture, standards, and expectations.

Recruiting & Retention

  • Assist in identifying, evaluating, recruiting, and retaining academically qualified student-athletes.ย 
  • Assist with recruiting communications and relationship building with prospective student-athletes, families, high school coaches, AAU coaches, and transfer prospects.ย 
  • Assist with coordinating recruiting visits, maintaining recruiting databases, enrollment tracking efforts, and prospect identification through recruiting services, social media platforms, camps, clinics, and transfer portal opportunities.

Student-Athlete Development & Academic Support

  • Assist with monitoring academic progress and supporting student-athlete success.
  • Encourage student-athletes to maintain standards consistent with Westminster College expectations.
  • Support leadership development, personal growth, and overall student-athlete well-being.
  • Assist in maintaining communication with academic support personnel when appropriate.

Department & College Responsibilities

  • Assist with the program's marketing, branding, and social media initiatives.
  • Attend department meetings and events, professional development opportunities, and campus events as assigned.
  • Maintain compliance with all Westminster College, SLIAC, NCAA, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Complete additional duties assigned by the Head Women's Basketball Coach, Athletic Director, or Athletics Department Leadership.

Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's degree preferred. ย 

Experience & Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of basketball fundamentals and player development.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with prospective student athletes, families, campus partners, and community members.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
  • Understanding of NCAA Division III philosophy and regulations.
  • Minimum of one year of collegiate coaching, graduate assistant, basketball operations, or related collegiate athletics experience preferred.
  • Collegiate playing experience preferred.
