Job description

3 days onsite, Houston TX Senior DB2 SQL Data Engineer We are seeking a Senior DB2 SQL Data Engineer with expert-level proficiency in SQL stored procedures and deep familiarity with the DB2 IBM iSeries system (not Z/OS, not mainframe). The ideal candidate will have a strong database development and application coding background, particularly in modernizing and converting RPG programs to SQL. This role requires extensive hands-on experience in IBM iSeries tools like Aldon, RDI, and ACS, alongside proficiency in contemporary development environments and languages such as Python, microservices, and VS Code IDE.

Responsibilities: Develop and maintain SQL stored procedures and scripts in the DB2 IBM iSeries environment. Modernize and convert RPGIV, RPGLE, and RPGFree programs to SQLbased applications. Collaborate closely with application developers and analysts to integrate database solutions.

Utilize IBM iSeries tools such as Aldon, RDI (Rational Developer for i), and ACS (Access Client Solutions) for application development and deployment. Participate in design sessions and provide input for database architecture and application performance tuning. Ensure data integrity, security, and performance of the DB2 database environment.

Write and maintain technical documentation related to database design, configuration, and processes. Requirements: Proven track record as a Senior Database Developer with a focus on DB2 database development in IBM iSeries environment. Expertise in SQL stored procedures, SQL scripting, and database optimization techniques.

Solid understanding of RPG programming languages (RPGIV, RPGLE, RPGFree). Experience in application development beyond traditional green screen environments for IBM iSeries. Proficiency in IBM iSeries development tools such as Aldon, RDI, and ACS.

Familiarity with modern programming languages and tools such as Python, microservices architecture, and VS Code IDE. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong communication and problem solving skills. Prior experience in converting legacy RPG programs to SQL-based applications is highly desirable.

Preferred Skills: Knowledge of Python programming and its integration with DB2 databases. Exposure to microservices architecture and RESTful API development. Familiarity with modern IDEs like VS Code for application development.
