Job description

Core Responsibilities
  • Design, engineer, and support cloud-based database platforms that enable secure, scalable, and resilient business solutions.

  • Lead and contribute to database modernization and cloud migration initiatives, helping transition critical workloads from on-premises environments to cloud-native platforms.

  • Partner with application teams, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to define database architecture, platform standards, and long-term technology strategies.

  • Drive improvements in platform resiliency, performance, availability, observability, disaster recovery, and operational excellence across enterprise database environments.

  • Provide technical leadership and consultation on cloud-based relational and non-relational database technologies, identifying opportunities to optimize scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency.

  • Support complex production environments through advanced troubleshooting, incident response, and root cause analysis while helping ensure platform stability and service reliability.

  • Establish and promote engineering best practices, automation opportunities, governance standards, and operational processes aligned with Vanguard's cloud strategy.

  • Mentor engineers and operations teams by sharing technical expertise and enabling successful adoption of modern database platforms and services.

  • Evaluate emerging database technologies and contribute to strategic decisions regarding platform direction, architecture, and modernization roadmaps.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in database engineering, database administration, data modeling, application development, business systems analysis, or related enterprise data platform roles.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Strong understanding of database architecture, logical and physical data modeling, performance tuning, and platform optimization.

  • Experience supporting cloud migration, data modernization, and database transformation initiatives.

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex database, data integration, migration, and conversion issues.

  • Knowledge of database security, governance, compliance, and data integrity best practices.

  • Strong stakeholder management, strategic thinking, and operational execution skills.
