Senior MongoDB Database Engineer

About your role:

As a Senior MongoDB Database Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and operating high-throughput, low-latency MongoDB platforms supporting mission-critical workloads at enterprise scale. You will bring hands-on experience with multi-terabyte to petabyte-scale clusters and architect resilient, high-performing sharded environments under heavy production load.

What you'll do:

  • Lead end-to-end MongoDB performance optimization including query tuning, execution plan analysis, and index design

  • Design and implement scalable data models optimized for high read/write throughput and low latency

  • Architect and operate large-scale sharded clusters using range-based and hash-based strategies

  • Optimize shard key selection, chunk distribution, and balancing to prevent hotspots and improve performance

  • Manage cross-shard query efficiency and reduce scatter-gather impact across distributed workloads

  • Support large production environments (hundreds of nodes, multi-region deployments) with a focus on availability and resilience

  • Implement and maintain high availability, disaster recovery, and failover strategies across regions

  • Automate database operations, monitoring, and maintenance tasks using Python or shell scripting

  • Partner with application teams on data modeling, query design, and performance best practices

  • Participate in 24x7 on call Support

Experience you'll need to have:

  • 6+ years of experience as a MongoDB Engineer or DBA in large-scale production environments

  • 6 + years of experience in MongoDB sharding, replication internals, and distributed architecture design

  • 2+ years of experience with Python, Powershell, RedHat Linux, Mac OS, IIS, and Active Directory

  • 2+ years with cloud technologies such as Google Cloud and Azure

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, or a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education, work, or military experience

Experience that would be great to have:

  • Prior experience in the financial services industry

  • Experience with database migration projects

  • Prior exposure to microservices architectures, distributed systems, or streaming platforms

  • Knowledge of complex technologies, tools, methodologies, the enterprise architecture, and emerging technologies in the industry

  • Understanding of the relationship between information technology, business practices, consumer markets and industry and be able to apply that knowledge to support the needs of critical systems and projects

How you'll work:

  • Fiserv emphasizes in-person collaboration to help you grow your career while shaping the future of fintech, this role is on-site Monday through Friday

  • This role requires being on-call during non-standard and/or overnight hours on a rotational basis

  • This role requires flexibility to work overtime that includes weekends and holidays

Salary Range

$128,000.00 - $216,000.00

These pay ranges apply to employees in New Jersey and New York. Pay ranges for employees in other states may differ.
