DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR

Location: Tampa, Florida

Full-time

General Description:

Responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of the databases at the enterprise level. Actively participates in the planning, development, and resolution of problems related to the administration of databases.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for the installation, configuration and maintenance of the database management systems, their infrastructure, Oracle and MSSQL.

Identify, configure, and control user data security accesses, permissions, and privileges.

Monitor and maintain database performance by performing routine monitoring, analysis, and performance tuning. Troubleshoot database problems; escalating problems to vendor as needed.

Directly implement the conceptual requirements in the databases.

Understand the logical design and how to be translated into a standard data model and how it is aligned to the physical design of the database for the optimization of performance, indexes, and stats updates.

Design, maintain and implement the physical model of OLTP and OLAP repositories with all the necessary elements security and performance.

Develop and enforce standards and guidelines for efficient usage of database management systems and user access procedures.

Document databases, including adherence to the best practices, procedures and definitions of the data dictionary.

Document, develop and analyze disaster recovery processes. Participate in trials and / or planning of them at the business level. Ensure compliance with the requirements identified in the business continuity plan.

Develop, manage, and test database backup and recovery plans.

Capacity planning of database environments for production, testing and development. Ensure adequate storage of all elements and their dependencies, including the proper functioning of any backup detail.

Work with project managers, programmers, and web developers on assigned projects.

Maintain communication with business and technical personnel to ensure the integrity of the databases and their security.

Design and document the architecture of the database environments.

Verify that the best practices of Data Models are carried out.

Implement the objects according to the specifications provided with databases.

Create the scripts, utilities, and reports at the operational level for maintenance tasks or processes for the databases.

Create, test, and execute data management procedures. Analyze and sustain performance and capacity requirements.

Analyze, consolidate, and intonate the databases to obtain greater efficiencies.

Monitor systems and platforms to ensure an adequate level of availability.


Supervise the backups, the "cluster", the "mirroring", the replication and the "failover" of the databases.

Restore and recover corrupt databases.

Install and test updates and patches, implement security and encryption.

Provide emergency technical support whenever the company requires it.

Evaluate and recommend new database technologies.

Perform other duties as required.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Information Systems and minimum of six (6) years of experience in installation, configuration, analysis and performance of databases, their components and related technologies, or combination of education and equivalent experience required. Advance degree preferred.

Four (4) years of experience and knowledge in support of production environment with focus on technical support "in-house" for technical and non-technical personnel at the company level.

Four (4) years of experience in the monitoring, analysis and maintenance of health and availability of databases in both Oracle and MS-SQL.


Proven ability in identifying problems and resolving production opportunities.

Ability to simultaneously manage several organizational projects with different levels of complexity.

Ability to make decisions under pressure in a dynamic environment.

Self-taught capacity; maintains updated knowledge of tools, technical processes and practices to improve the performance of its functions.

Licenses and / or Certifications:

Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) - SQL Server Administration or equivalent required.
