Job description

A self-motivated individual responsible for database object design, development, maintenance for the enterprise application data model and database administration in the Azure Cloud. Ensure enterprise database procedures, methodologies and standards are maintained across the application teams. Performs database promotions to all servers per Service Level Agreements. Provides necessary production problem resolution to support departmental server up time goals. Assists with SQL Server upgrades to Enterprise.


  • Demonstrate strong expertise in relational database technologies, including T-SQL coding, and hands-on experience supporting Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL platforms.
  • Design, implement, and maintain database structures that align with business requirements, application needs, and enterprise data standards.
  • Proactively monitor database performance, diagnose and resolve issues, and ensure high availability, reliability, and data integrity.
  • Implement and enforce database security controls to protect sensitive data and prevent unauthorized access or security threats.
  • Perform routine database backups and develop, test, and maintain disaster recovery and data restoration strategies.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation covering database architecture, configurations, operational procedures, and performance metrics.
  • Apply strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to efficiently identify, isolate, and resolve database-related issues.
  • Partner closely with application development teams to design, optimize, and support database-driven applications and data integration solutions.
  • Design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines to ingest, process, and transform data from multiple sources, while managing data models and schemas that support analytics and reporting.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to understand business requirements and translate them into scalable, high-quality technical solutions.
  • Ensure data quality, security, and integrity through effective validation, testing, and monitoring practices.
  • Work with IT and infrastructure teams to manage and monitor database platforms, cloud services, and related data processing frameworks.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of relational database concepts, data modeling principles, and best practices in database management.
  • Execute production and non-production database deployments and change promotions in accordance with established service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Stay current with emerging database technologies, industry trends, and best practices in database and data engineering.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as required to support team and business objectives.

  • Three to five years of hands-on experience working with relational database management systems.
  • Two or more years of experience with Microsoft Azure services, including Azure SQL, Managed Instances, Azure Automation, Logic Apps, Azure Synapse, and Azure Data Factory.
  • Two or more years of experience in SQL and T-SQL development, performance tuning, transactional replication, and audit and compliance vulnerability remediation.
  • Two or more years of experience designing, building, maintaining, optimizing, and troubleshooting data pipelines.
  • Two or more years of experience across data management disciplines, including data integration, data modeling, data optimization, data quality, archiving, and data purging.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines in cloud environments using DevOps tools such as Git and GitHub.
  • Proficiency in database diagnostic and performance tools, including SQL Profiler and SQL Dynamic Management Views (DMVs).
  • Experience creating logical and physical data models using industry-standard data modeling tools.
  • Proficiency with development and database tools such as Visual Studio 2022 or later, SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), and Visual Studio Code.
  • Must be available to participate in a rotating 24x7 on-call schedule to support production systems.

Preferred

  • Proficiency in two or more programming or scripting languages, such as Python, Java, C#, TypeScript, PowerShell, or Scala.
  • Knowledge of modern data architecture, including data warehousing, data lakes, and medallion architecture.
  • Familiarity with enterprise data management processes, including data governance, master data management, and metadata management.
  • Working knowledge of application development frameworks, such as .NET Framework and Entity Framework.
  • Demonstrated expertise in database troubleshooting and performance optimization.
  • Microsoft certifications such as Azure Data Engineer Associate or Azure Data Fundamentals are preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across IT teams and business stakeholders.
