Job description

Job Summary:
Viasat is a company on a mission to deliver transformative global connections. They are seeking a Data Engineer to build infrastructure and tools for data collection and processing, enabling data access for various use cases and supporting the growth of the company.
Responsibilities:
• own core components of data ingestion and integration processing that intakes :4 billon events per hour with data volume in excess of 30TB per day
• design and implement new features and enhancements to our data platform to advance component architecture towards strategic data governance/management objectives
• provide ongoing support, monitoring, and maintenance of deployed products
• monitor emerging technologies/technology practices for potential use within the Company
Qualifications:
Required:
• 5+ years software development experience using at least two of the following: Java, Scala, Python, C or C++.
• Familiarity with RDBMS technologies (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, etc.)
• Experience in Linux based systems, docker, and code versioning tooling (Git/CI/CD).
• Familiarity with at least one cloud provider such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience in design and implementation of robust and highly scalable Data services
• Reliable teammate with the ability to handle different projects simultaneously in a fast-paced multifaceted agile work environment.
• BS or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Math, Physics or a related field
• Ability to travel up to 10%
• Strong analytical abilities
• US Citizenship required
Preferred:
• Understanding of distributed and parallel computing architectures
• Experience with scaled data environments and Streaming technologies like Kafka and Spark
• Expertise in Scala and/or Java
• Working experience in design, development, and implementation of highly scalable, scaled software systems and components, client-facing web applications and systems as a full stack developer using one of the following: Java, Python, or Scala
