Job description

Data Visualization Specialist

About Viamo

Mobile technology is revolutionizing how organizations engage with populations they serve. More than 96% of the world's population has access to a mobile phone, meaning it is now possible to reach nearly every single person on the planet. Yet, three billion people still lack access to relevant and timely information in local languages and their voices remain under heard.

Viamo's vision is to be the organization that brings the world's knowledge to the next billion people via voice.

The "Road to 100 Million Users" requires a product that is safe, affordable, available in local languages, and functional on any mobile phone. We manage the Viamo Platform, a national public information service called 8-4-5 in Rwanda. By calling 8-4-5 through an MTN connection, anyone in Rwanda with access to a basic mobile phone can access information on topics such as health, agriculture, financial literacy and more via IVR and a generative IA voice assistant, "Miss Baza". To meet our scale and sustainability objectives, we are shifting from a project-funded model to a market-led utility embedded in the daily lives of users and the operations of partners.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Data Visualization Specialist to join our globally distributed team. In this role, you will lead the data analysis for our flagship product, Ask Viamo Anything (AVA). You will serve as the crucial link between AVA's data and the strategic objectives of the team. Working closely with the AVA Product Director, your insights will directly inform critical product evolution, user experience improvements, and commercial market decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Dashboarding & Visualization: Create clear, impactful visualizations of data, including reports and dashboards, utilizing tools like Google Data Studio.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure the absolute accuracy and reliability of all built data products by proactively troubleshooting, debugging technical errors, and resolving data discrepancies.
  • Product & Commercial Decision Support: Partner with the AVA Product Director to build master dashboards and visualizations that guide product roadmaps and commercial decisions.
  • Data Analysis & Insight Generation: Query Viamo data to answer specific questions about the performance of AVA across multiple countries, helping to unearth insights and interpret trends in complex datasets.
  • Funnel & Churn Analysis: Map and analyze the end-to-end user journey within AVA to support the product manager to identify drop-off points, friction in the user experience, and opportunities to increase lifetime value or engagement impact.
  • Data Storytelling for Leadership: Translate complex data architectures and statistical findings into clear, narrative-driven insights and commercial recommendations for executive stakeholders, commercial partners, and donors.
  • Metrics Definition & Strategy: Guide the product team to plan metrics definitions and recommend approaches towards a unified approach to product measurement.
Reporting Structure
  • Reports to the Project Director, AVA

Location: This is a remote position; however, applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada and reside within the Ontario (Eastern) Time Zone. Regular collaboration with team members requires availability during standard business hours in the Eastern Time Zone.

Profile

Required

  • 3-5 years of experience working as a data analyst or in a related role.
  • Strong expertise in SQL.
  • Proven experience in dashboarding software such as Google Data Studio.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills with a proven ability to troubleshoot, debug, and communicate complex concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical team members.

Desirable

  • Proven experience working independently and effectively as part of a remote, global team.
  • Degree in computer science, data science, or a similar field.
  • Experience with data warehouse solutions like BigQuery, Redshift, or Snowflake.
  • A passion for helping people in emerging markets through mobile technology.

Viamo is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We value diversity and encourage applications from all candidates. We believe that diverse perspectives help our teams to create innovative solutions and understand our global clients' needs. In alignment with our values, we are committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse global workforce without discrimination.
