Job description

Role: Manager - Hybrid Cloud & Virtualization (VMware)
Location: Newtown Square, PA (Hybrid - 3 days onsite).
Duration: Contract to Hire after 3-6 months
 

Overview

  • Seeking a hands-on Hybrid Cloud & Virtualization Manager to lead enterprise compute across Azure, AWS, and on-prem VMware environments
  • Role focused on secure, compliant, and cost-optimized infrastructure supporting payer-grade workloads (highly regulated, business-critical systems)
  • Owns hybrid cloud operations, VMware virtualization, and enterprise FinOps / consumption governance
  • Ideal for environments balancing legacy on-prem investments with modern data/cloud platforms (including Databricks)
  • Structured as a contract-to-hire with long-term leadership potential

What You’ll Do

  • Lead operations across hybrid infrastructure (Azure, AWS + VMware-based on-prem environments)
  • Manage and optimize VMware environments (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, clusters, storage, networking)
  • Ensure availability, performance, and resilience of enterprise compute platforms
  • Oversee infrastructure spanning on-prem, private cloud, and public cloud environments
  • Establish and enforce compute governance, standards, and controls across cloud and on-prem
  • Drive security, compliance, and audit readiness aligned to regulated payer environments (PHI, HIPAA-type controls)
  • Oversee identity, access, and secure compute posture across hybrid environments
  • Own end-to-end FinOps and consumption management across:
    • Azure and AWS cloud usage
    • Databricks / data & analytics workloads
    • VMware on-prem compute (cost per VM, cluster, application, or business unit)
  • Leverage tools such as Finout (and native cloud tooling) to:
    • Drive cost visibility and allocation (showback / chargeback)
    • Identify optimization opportunities (right-sizing, workload placement)
    • Partner with finance on budget tracking and forecasting
  • Support hybrid cloud strategy, balancing workloads across environments for cost, compliance, and performance
  • Lead initiatives for automation, monitoring, and infrastructure standardization
  • Partner with application, data, and security teams on platform reliability and modernization initiatives
  • Manage and mentor infrastructure and virtualization engineering teams

What You Bring

  • 8–12+ years of experience in infrastructure, cloud, and virtualization leadership roles
  • Deep expertise in VMware (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter)
  • Strong experience across hybrid cloud environments (Azure and/or AWS)
  • Proven experience managing enterprise compute across on-prem and cloud platforms
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Cloud cost management / FinOps practices
    • Managing consumption for data platforms (Databricks or similar)
    • Building cost attribution models across infra and application layers
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Virtualization, compute, storage, and networking
    • Infrastructure security and access controls
    • Backup, disaster recovery, and high availability
  • Experience in regulated industries (healthcare / payer preferred)
  • Proven ability to lead teams and work cross-functionally with engineering, security, and finance

Nice to Have

  • VMware certifications (VCP, VCAP)
  • Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure)
  • Experience in payer organizations or large healthcare enterprises
  • Exposure to automation (Terraform, scripting, DevOps tooling)
  • Familiarity with enterprise cost governance platforms (Finout, Apptio, CloudHealth, etc.)
