Key responsibilities

  • Assess the current state of data capabilities, identify gaps, risks, and unrealized value.

  • Design target-state strategies, operating models, and sequenced roadmaps with priorities and measures of progress.

  • Create executive briefings and business cases to support strategic decisions and facilitate cross-functional alignment.

Job description

The work

Data Strategists help organizations decide what their data should make possible and how to get there. They connect mission priorities, operating needs, policy, technology, governance, talent, and investment into a direction that leaders can fund and delivery teams can execute.

The strongest strategies begin with evidence. Data Strategists assess the current state, identify the decisions and services that better data could improve, design target capabilities and operating models, and sequence a roadmap that balances early progress with durable change. They stay close enough to implementation to revise the strategy when delivery reveals something the planning did not.

What you'll build

Current-state assessments that expose capability gaps, duplicative investment, unmanaged risk, and unrealized data value.

Target-state strategies and operating models that connect governance, platforms, analytics, artificial intelligence, workforce, and mission use.

Sequenced roadmaps with priorities, dependencies, investment choices, owners, and measures of progress.

Executive briefings and business cases that turn technical choices into clear strategic decisions.

Cross-functional alignment among data, technology, privacy, security, legal, mission, and program leaders.

Who you are

You are excited by direction that becomes action. You can move from a board-level question to the operating model, investment sequence, and first practical step without losing the reason the work matters.

You test assumptions, write clearly, and make uncertainty visible. You are comfortable advising senior leaders, but you earn credibility by understanding the delivery realities beneath the strategy.

What you bring

A working foundation in enterprise data, technology, analytics, digital, or artificial intelligence strategy.

Experience assessing capabilities, designing operating models, developing roadmaps, and evaluating investment choices.

Enough technical and governance fluency to connect architecture, data management, analytics, security, privacy, and organizational change.

The analytical discipline to ground recommendations in evidence and the writing and presentation skills to carry them to executives.

The credibility to build alignment across leaders with different incentives, responsibilities, and risk perspectives.
