Job Description
The Associate Director, Commercial Data Strategy plays a critical role in shaping and advancing AbbVie's commercial data strategy, data products, and analytics enablement capabilities. Operating at the intersection of business strategy, analytics, and technology, this leader is responsible for driving the development of scalable, governed, and reusable data assets that accelerate decision-making, support advanced analytics, and enable AI-driven business capabilities.
This individual will partner closely with APEX Enterprise, BTS (IT), Data Engineering, Analytics, and business stakeholders to define data priorities, align enterprise investments, and ensure commercial data assets are easy to discover, understand, access, and activate. Operating with a strong product management mindset, the Associate Director balances strategic vision with execution to establish reusable semantic models, governed metrics, business metadata standards, and enterprise-ready data products that increase speed-to-insight across the U.S. Commercial organization.
Responsibilities:
  • Commercial Data Strategy: Define and advance the roadmap for commercial data capabilities that support reporting, analytics, operational decision-making, and AI initiatives.
  • Domain Data Onboarding & Integration: Lead the end-to-end onboarding of new data sources, vendor assets, and commercial platforms within assigned data domains. Develop scalable playbooks and frameworks that drastically reduce time-to-value for new acquisitions.
  • Data Product Strategy: Act as the business product owner for domain data. Partner with BTS and Data Engineering to define data requirements, transformation logic, and roadmaps, turning raw data into marketplace-ready, fit-for-purpose data products.
  • Cross-Functional Orchestration: Manage complex integration programs across highly matrixed teams (Business, APEX Enterprise, BTS, Legal, and Compliance). Facilitate prioritization, align competing business needs, and oversee source-to-target mapping and UAT readiness.
  • Embedded Governance & Quality: Partner with Data Governance teams to ensure all onboarding processes adhere to enterprise standards. Drive the implementation of metadata management, business rules, and data quality controls directly into the onboarding lifecycle.
  • Vendor & Ecosystem Management: Evaluate external vendor capabilities and manage ongoing relationships with data providers and implementation partners, ensuring operational readiness and optimized cost structures.
  • Enablement, Support, & Adoption: Define the operational support models for onboarded data products. Drive enablement strategies that improve the discoverability, usability, and cross-functional adoption of domain data assets for reporting, analytics, and AI use cases.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in data strategy, data product management, analytics, business intelligence, or technology transformation.
  • Demonstrated experience defining and executing enterprise data strategies, data products, or commercial analytics capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, metadata management, semantic models, business metrics, and data quality principles.
  • Proven ability to lead complex cross-functional initiatives and influence senior stakeholders across business and technology organizations.
  • Experience with modern cloud data platforms (e.g., Snowflake), self-service analytics, governed data products, and AI-ready data ecosystems.
  • Experience within the Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, Healthcare, or other highly regulated industries preferred.

Additional Information
