Within GCS, the Corporate Real Estate division (GCSCR) plays a central role in managing the institution's global real estate portfolio. It focuses on planning, developing, and operating facilities that are safe, cost effective, sustainable, and fit for purpose. Through this work, GCSCR enables business units to deliver their programs in alignment with the World Bank Group's mission of ending poverty on a livable planet. To carry out its mandate, GCSCR is organized into three divisions: HQ Real Estate Development and Management (GCSHQ), which oversees facilities in Washington, DC; International Real Estate (GCSIR), which manages properties across country offices; and the Center of Excellence (CoE), which serves as a hub of expertise to drive operational excellence, improve efficiency, and support the execution of key initiatives.ย

The Corporate Services division (GCSCS) drives the delivery of essential services that underpin the World Bank Group's operations and staff experience. Through an integrated portfolio spanning travel, workplace services, customer engagement, and business support, GCSCS ensures that staff and clients can operate efficiently and effectively across headquarters and country offices. GCSCS also provides administrative oversight for the WBG Family Network and the 1818 Society, while setting policy frameworks and service standards and delivering services through a combination of staff and vendors globally. The division is organized into three main units: Travel and Client Services (GCSTC), Business Services (GCSBA), and Innovation and Client Solutions (GCSIS), with GCSIS also overseeing the Service Desk and the Processing and Analytics team in Chennai, India.ย

Sustainability remains a core priority across GCS, with a growing focus on resource efficiency, improved space utilization, resilient design, and higher performing workplace solutions that reduce the environmental footprint of the portfolio.ย

The internship program offers graduate and undergraduate students a structured opportunity to gain practical exposure to GCS operations while contributing to ongoing projects and priority initiatives. Internships are designed to align organizational needs with the academic background and professional interests of participants, while ensuring full compliance with institutional requirements.ย

Duties and Responsibilitiesย
Under the guidance of a designated supervisor or Task Team Leader (TTL), the intern will support one or more GCS teams. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:ย
ย  Shadowing technical specialists to observe day-to-day operations, workflows, and decision-making processesย
ย  Supporting ongoing projects, initiatives, and deliverables across assigned teamsย
Conducting background research, data collection, and analysis to inform technical and operational workย
ย  Assisting with the preparation of briefing materials, presentations, dashboards, or analytical outputsย
ย  Supporting process improvement efforts, documentation, and coordination activities as neededย
ย  Participating in team meetings, knowledge sessions, and relevant discussions to gain exposure to GCS workstreamsย
Specific tasks will be refined at the start of the internship to ensure alignment with team priorities and the intern's skills and academic objectives.ย ย ย

A core component of the internship is structured learning through observation and engagement. The intern will:ย
ย  Gain exposure to multiple functional areas within GCS operations, supporting real projects and initiatives across corporate functionsย
Learn from technical specialists through shadowing and supervised participation in project workย
ย  Develop practical skills in research, analysis, communication, and stakeholder engagementย
ย  Gain exposure to WBG operations and priorities, including how GCS enables institutional deliveryย
ย  Participate in WBG and GCS events, such as learning weeks, briefings, and knowledge sessionsย
