Job Title: Middle School Science Teacher (Grades 6 8)

Position Summary
The Middle School Science Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, standards-aligned science instruction to students in grades 6 8. The teacher will foster curiosity, critical thinking, and scientific inquiry while supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of middle school learners. This position requires a commitment to equity, collaboration, and continuous professional growth.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-based science instruction aligned with Oregon State Science Standards (NGSS).
  • Develop and implement engaging lessons that promote inquiry, problem-solving, and hands-on learning.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, including students with disabilities, multilingual learners, and students identified as talented and gifted.
  • Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom environment that supports student engagement and achievement.
  • Integrate literacy, math, and technology into science instruction where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams, special education staff, and instructional coaches to support student success.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and performance.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional learning communities (PLCs), and district professional development opportunities.
  • Supervise students in classrooms and other assigned areas, ensuring student safety and appropriate behavior.
  • Support school-wide initiatives, programs, and activities.

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)
  • Familiarity with Accelerate Learning instructional resources.
  • Experience using student information systems such as Synergy.
  • Experience with educator evaluation and professional growth platforms such as Frontline My Professional Growth.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Education, or a related field.
  • Valid Oregon Teaching License with appropriate endorsement(s) (or ability to obtain prior to start date).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of middle school instructional practices and adolescent development.
