Job description

At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology.

Come be a part of what's next. The core function of the Netflix product is to distribute our entertainment offerings (TV series, film, games, live events, podcasts, etc.) to our members. We do this via two main mechanisms: personalization algorithms and curated merchandising

The Personalization & Merchandising Science team is at the forefront of driving innovations in this problem space of content distribution. Leverage techniques across experimentation, observational causal inference, analytics, statistical modeling, and econometrics, the team collaborates in deeply cross-functional settings to identify, incubate and enable experiences that entertain and delight our members by surfacing the right content at the right time. We are looking for an exceptional leader to manage a team of data scientists and analytics engineers to guide our approach to innovation in content distribution.

This role works highly cross-functionally amidst a complex stakeholder landscape across Engineering, Merchandising, Product Management, Consumer Insights, and Design. A strong candidate for this role is able to inform decision making using data and exceptional judgment, possesses excellent communication and collaboration skills, and is a strong, seasoned people leader who can effectively guide a talented team. In this role, you will: Lead a team of technical roles across data science and analytics engineering to shape the measurement and innovation strategy for the personalization and merchandising spaces, balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders to drive durable business impact Own end-to-end outcomes for measurement and insights in your domain, ensuring the team delivers timely, decision-ready work that meaningfully shapes product direction and development Partner closely with other functions to frame the right problems, surface tradeoffs, and build a shared, causal understanding of content distribution Set a clear vision and direction for the team, establishing priorities and operating norms that enable strong thought partnership, high-quality execution, and sustained impact Act as a role model for Netflix values in day-to-day work and interactions, demonstrating strong judgment, candor, and accountability To be highly successful in this role, you will have: Demonstrated experience leading data science, analytics, or related technical teams in algorithmically-focused domains, with accountability for both setting direction and delivering outcomes Strong analytical judgment and structured thinking, with the ability to move from messy data and ambiguous problems to clear insights, recommendations, and decisions Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to influence partners through clear framing, tradeoff articulation, and compelling data storytelling A track record of operating effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments, exercising strong ownership and judgment with minimal process or oversight A track record of building high-performing teams by developing senior ICs into trusted thought partners, increasing both their individual impact and the team's overall leverage A Master's or PhD in a quantitative field, with deep expertise in applied data science and experimentation within consumer-facing, algorithmically-driven products Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses.

You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $600,000.00 - $1,050,000.00

This compensation range will vary based on location. Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs.

Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off. Full-time salaried employees are immediately entitled to flexible time off. See more details about our Benefits here.

Netflix is a unique culture and environment. Learn more here. Inclusion is a Netflix value and we strive to host a meaningful interview experience for all candidates.

If you want an accommodation/adjustment for a disability or any other reason during the hiring process, please send a request to your recruiting partner. We are an equal-opportunity employer and celebrate diversity, recognizing that diversity builds stronger teams. We approach diversity and inclusion seriously and thoughtfully.

We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, ancestry, national origin, caste, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression, age, disability, medical condition, pregnancy, genetic makeup, marital status, or military service.
