Position Summary:
The Office of Institutional Diversity (OID) within the Division of Student Affairs invites applications for a Graduate Assistant to support the planning, coordination, and implementation of programs and initiatives that promote community and belonging on campus. This position offers a valuable opportunity for individuals pursuing careers in student affairs, student support services, or inclusive programming. The Graduate Assistant will play an integral role in developing and facilitating initiatives throughout the academic year and in our summer programs that support the personal development of students.
About Harvey Mudd College:
Located in the heart of Claremont, California, 35 miles east of Los Angeles, Harvey Mudd College is a highly selective undergraduate liberal arts college offering degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. HMC enrolls about 800 students and is a member of The Claremont Colleges, which comprises five undergraduate colleges and two graduate institutions. According to students, professors, and alumni, what makes Harvey Mudd distinctive is its collaborative, cross-disciplinary nature. Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan and organize logistics to execute two signature summer programs for incoming freshmen; Summer Institute (SI) and New International Student and Scholars Orientation (NISSO).
Assist in training student mentors for SI and NISSO programs. Workshops will prepare mentors for the arrival of the participants and equip them with leadership and personal skills.
Develop assessment tools to gather data to evaluate programs and determine areas of improvement.
Provide outreach, education and engagement with diverse student populations through presentations, training, one-on-one meetings, and other strategies.
Maintain the OID website, create social media content and marketing flyers to increase engagement in office sponsored programs.
Support our international student population through programs and 1:1 or small group meetings.
Research resources and learning material that could assist students in their personal development.
Advise leaders from various student organizations during event planning phases and collaborate on events that align with office goals.
Aid in proctoring exams for the Office of Accessible Education.
Administrative tasks such as creating spreadsheets, tracking event attendance, budgeting, etc.
Assist with office upkeep, manage inventory of supplies and assist with procuring supplies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal, writing, and verbal communication skills. Ability to work effectively with HMC students.
Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment in decision-making. Ability to prioritize multiple duties/tasks and meet deadlines.
Ability to think strategically, plan effectively, and manage projects/events.
Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to high standards and attention to detail.
Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment and interact successfully with individuals with varying abilities, backgrounds, interests, and beliefs.
Ability to work weekends and evening hours depending on programmatic needs.
Adept at using software such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Google Drive, Canva, PowerPoint, Access, and Adobe Acrobat.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in an educational environment.
Experience in managing a student program and working with students.
Education: Bachelor's degree and enrollment in a Master's degree program in Higher Education Administration, Mathematics, Science, Education, or another related field.
Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to the College's automobile insurance carrier.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the staff member is regularly required to sit; stand, use hands and fingers and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The individual must regularly lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Remote Work Eligibility:
All staff positions, regardless of remote work eligibility, require an initial 30-calendar-day on-campus work period. Your position is essential to on-campus operations and requires you to work exclusively on campus. Additionally, remote work is subject to the College's remote work policy. The College reserves the right to revoke or modify a remote work arrangement for any staff, at any time and for any reason, as articulated in the College's remote work policy.
Hours: Up to 20 hours per week.
Classification:
This is a temporary, non-exempt, part-time, up to 20 hours per week, non-benefits eligible position. June 2026- May 2027.
Salary
The anticipated starting salary is $17.50/hour. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Reporting:
Reports to the Associate Dean for the Office of Institutional Diversity.
