Job description

Integrated Data Services (IDS) is a leading provider of custom software products and Government financial management services. IDS was founded in 1997 in El Segundo, CA, and since that time has seen tremendous growth and success. Currently, IDS has offices supporting customers nationwide. By providing customers with fast, efficient and reliable information systems and support services, IDS has become a preferred provider of financial and programmatic systems, services and solutions across a wide variety of government agencies.

Position Description:

IDS is seeking a Data Engineer to support the Navy’s acquisition transformation strategy that is bringing together data from diverse defense and federal systems to build scalable pipelines, APIs, and data products that improve how critical information is integrated, accessed, and used. In this role, you'll work hands-on with complex acquisition and finance data to develop scalable, production-ready capabilities while helping establish reusable patterns for data ingestion, integration, and delivery. Your work will contribute to the technical foundation of a growing data platform ecosystem supporting multiple Military Services and the Department of War (DoW).

This is hands-on engineering, not oversight. You will write the code, own the pipelines in production, and help set the standards.

We are seeking a candidate based in the Washington, DC/DMV area. This position is currently remote; however, periodic travel to Government facilities throughout the National Capital Region and other Navy locations may be required based on deployment activities. Applicants must be willing to support onsite customer engagements when required.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Design, build, and operate production data pipelines in SQL, PL/SQL, Java, and Python across an Oracle, Talend, and Apigee stack in an IL-4/5 environment
  • Integrate and transform acquisition and financial datasets into reliable, reusable data products
  • Develop data models and analytics datasets that drive enterprise reporting and operational decisions
  • Build and maintain REST API integrations for ingesting and exchanging data across systems
  • Migrate data from legacy systems
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and tune scheduled workflows for performance, reliability, and scale
  • Implement data validation, quality checks, lineage, and governance practices that build trust in the data
  • Contribute to automated testing, code reviews, documentation, and reusable engineering patterns
  • Shape physical database design for performance, scaling, security, backup, and disaster recovery
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Required:
    • Strong SQL and PL/SQL, plus working proficiency in Java, Python, and JSON
    • Demonstrated experience building and operating production ETL/ELT pipelines
    • Data modeling experience, including turning raw source data into reusable analytics datasets or data products
    • Experience integrating or consuming data through REST APIs
    • Experience troubleshooting and optimizing pipelines for performance and reliability
  • Preferred:
    • Hands-on Oracle, Talend, or Apigee experience. Comparable enterprise RDBMS, ETL, and API gateway tooling is also of interest.
    • Experience with DoW acquisition and finance data
    • Experience delivering in an IL-4/5 or other accredited government cloud environment
Education and Work Experience:
  • This position requires five (5) or more years of relevant experience
  • This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in data science, computer science, software engineering, information systems, mathematics, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Experience in lieu of education may be considered if the individual has seven (7) or more years of relevant experience
Physical & Mental Qualifications:
  • Must be able to sit, type, hear, see, and speak for extended periods of time.
  • Must consistently work and type on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to able to communicate accurate information and ideas so others will understand.
  • Must be able to lift/carry at least 15 lbs.
  • May be required to move about inside an office to access file cabinets, office supplies, etc.
Security Clearance:
  • Applicants selected for employment will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet additional eligibility requirements for access to classified information or materials.
  • Active Secret clearance preferred; ability to obtain and maintain Secret clearance is mandatory.
Travel:
  • Some travel may be required.
Hours:
  • Normal work schedule hours may vary, Monday through Friday. May be required to work additional hours and/or weekends, as needed, to meet deadlines or to fulfill travel obligations.
Salary Range:
  • $150,000 - $175,000 per year
