The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Researcher - Mission Data & Insights supports internal and collaborative research initiatives including methodological design, data collection and analysis, and the composition of technical and non-technical manuscripts, reports, and presentations. The Researcher works closely with other Mission Data & Insights teammates to support organizational priorities related to the measurement of the impact and outcomes of WWP programs designed to connect, serve, and empower wounded warriors and their families.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work within an interdisciplinary team to propose, design, and implement all phases of research projects, leveraging valid and relevant resources.
  • Collect and synthesize publicly available data to identify benchmark standards such as Census, VA, Bureau of Labor Statistics, and other reference points for internal programs.
  • Analyze and query internal data sources to develop data-driven insights.
  • Conduct and document systematic literature reviews to inform programs and broader WWP efforts.
  • Effectively communicate research findings, implications, and recommendations through different modes such as manuscripts, brief reports, multimedia presentations, and workshops to a variety of audiences both technical and non-technical.
  • Draft, edit, revise, and proofread technical data for use in articles, talking points, presentations, research products, and other WWP materials.
  • Support research data quality efforts including evaluating datasets for completeness and accuracy and combining and structuring data for analysis.
  • Prioritize projects and assignments to meet organizational deadlines and priorities.
  • Collaborate with the Mission Data & Insights Impact Evaluation team and other departments in the organization to gather and interpret complex data.
  • Serve as an internal resource and subject matter expert (SME) regarding statistical best practices and analyses.
  • Attend and actively participate in required training and/or meetings, including but not limited to New Teammate Orientation, WWP Cares, ASIST Suicide Prevention training, Leadership training, culture/team based training, or departmental huddles.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented work environment
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with particular expertise in communicating research findings and data to broad audiences.
  • Strong analytical skills, including expertise in data analysis.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment in a timely and well-organized manner while maintaining a strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to compile, organize, and synthetize information obtained through research into coherent and professional summaries and narratives.
  • Proficiency conducting research using electronic and print reference materials.
  • Demonstrated record of initiative, critical thinking, problem solving, and adaptability.
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and under pressure of deadlines.
  • Comfortable working independently and also willing to seek feedback and/or input from others.
  • Familiarity with relevant areas such as veterans' issues, veteran service organizations, and/or nonprofits.
  • High level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite of applications, i.e., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • High energy level. Self- starter; willing to take initiative.
  • Unequivocal commitment to the highest standards of personal and business ethics and conduct.

EXPERIENCE

Requirements

  • Four years of research experience including designing studies and analyzing data.
  • Four years of experience composing manuscripts for publication.

Preferences

  • Two years of experience working with SAS.
  • Two years of experience working in a nonprofit organization.

EDUCATION

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field of study. Equivalent combination of education, experience, training, or certification may be considered in lieu of degree.

Preferences

  • Master's degree in relevant field of study.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain ASIST Certification within 1 year of hire.

Preferences

  • ASIST Certification.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • General office environment; temperature controlled.
