Data Research information

What are the typical daily responsibilities of someone working in data research?

A Data Research professional typically spends their day gathering large datasets from various sources, cleaning and organizing data, and conducting in-depth analyses to identify trends and meaningful insights. They often collaborate closely with other data professionals, business analysts, and cross-functional teams to understand project goals and deliver relevant findings. In addition, they prepare reports or visualizations to communicate their results and may present these to stakeholders. The role often requires adaptability, as project priorities and data sources can evolve frequently, making each day varied and engaging.

What is a data research?

A Data Research job involves collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to support decision-making and business strategies. Professionals in this role gather information from various sources, clean and organize datasets, and identify trends or patterns. They often use statistical tools and software to extract meaningful insights. Data researchers work in industries like finance, marketing, healthcare, and technology, helping organizations make data-driven decisions. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in data tools are essential for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in data research, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Data Research professional, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, familiarity with data collection methods, and typically a degree in a relevant field like statistics, mathematics, or information science. Proficiency with data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, Python, R, and experience with data visualization platforms like Tableau or Power BI are commonly required, and specialized certifications in data analytics can be advantageous. Key soft skills include curiosity, critical thinking, collaboration, and effective communication to present findings clearly. Job description

About Us

We are AI researchers and builders who understand how to curate data and RL environments that truly improve models. We curated OpenThoughts, one of the best open reasoning datasets, and have trained SOTA models such as Bespoke-MiniCheck and Bespoke-MiniChart.

We are embarked on a journey to build Environments that are entire digital worlds that can be used to push the frontier of agents.

What You'll Be Working On

You will work directly with our research team on RL environment and task creation for agent training. This means designing observation spaces, action spaces, reward signals, and success criteria for new environments โ€” and building the infrastructure that makes world-scale RL training possible. This is a high-ownership role; you will be building novel systems, not maintaining legacy ones.

Must-Have Skills

3+ years of data engineering experience โ€” pipelines, ETL, data modeling in production or research settings

Strong Python proficiency (numpy, pandas, Parquet, HDF5 are daily tools)

Familiarity with at least one RL framework (Gymnasium / OpenAI Gym, dm_env, or equivalent) and working knowledge of RL environment structure โ€” observation/action spaces, reward signals, episode logic

Experience with data versioning and experiment tracking (DVC, MLflow, W&B, or similar)

Comfortable with Docker and cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP)

Solid grasp of ML storage formats: Parquet, HDF5, JSON Lines
