We are seeking a Lead Data Engineer with strong ETL and Application expertise to lead the enhancement of existing ETL applications and design modern ETL/ELT pipelines as part of application redesign and migration to AWS. This role requires hands-on technical leadership, strong data engineering fundamentals, experience in Agile delivery models, proficiency with Jira for planning, tracking, and execution with the ability to guide teams through cloud-based data transformations while ensuring stability of current platforms.

Key Responsibilities

ETL Application Ownership & Enhancement

  • Lead the support, enhancement, and optimization of existing Ab Initio ETL applications

  • Analyze current ETL frameworks and recommend performance, scalability, and reliability improvements

  • Ensure adherence to enterprise data engineering standards, coding best practices, and governance

  • Drive defect resolution, root cause analysis, and proactive optimization

AWS Data Platform Design & Modernization

  • Architect and design ETL/ELT pipelines in AWS for redesigning existing onprem or legacy ETL applications

  • Lead migration and modernization initiatives from Ab Initio/onprem platforms to AWS-native solutions

  • Design scalable data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration patterns using AWS services

  • Evaluate and implement costeffective, performant cloud solutions aligned with business needs

Agile Delivery & Team Leadership

  • Work in an Agile/Scrum or SAFe environment, actively participating in sprint planning, backlog grooming, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives

  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Architects, QA, and DevOps teams

  • Break down complex data engineering work into Jira epics, stories, and tasks

  • Provide accurate estimations, track progress, and manage dependencies using Jira

  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, ensuring high-quality and timely delivery

Required Skills & Qualifications

Experience & Education
  • Typically between 5-7 years of relevant experience in data engineering, ETL development, and/or data platform design

  • Postsecondary degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field of study, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Core Technical Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience with Ab Initio

    • GDE, metadata management

    • Graph performance tuning and complex data transformations

  • AWS Data Engineering Expertise

    • Services such as S3, Glue, Redshift, Lambda

    • Experience designing ETL/ELT architectures in cloud

  • Strong SQL and data modeling skills (dimensional & analytical models)

  • Experience with large-scale batch data processing and data warehousing

Engineering & Delivery

  • Strong experience with data pipeline orchestration and scheduling
  • CI/CD knowledge (Ansible, Artifactory, GitHub Actions, or similar)
  • Familiarity with data quality, reconciliation, and controls
  • Solid understanding of security, IAM, and data governance in AWS

Soft Skills

  • Proven technical leadership and mentoring capabilities

  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills

  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fastpaced environment

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Business Intelligence tools like Business Objects, PowerBI, Axiom

  • Experience in financial services, regulatory, or risk data platforms

  • Experience with modernization or sunset of legacy ETL platforms

Salary:

$75,900.00 - $141,900.00
