About the Role:
The Data Engineer independently develops and maintains data pipelines, implements ELT processes, builds data transformations, and ensures data quality across DTS's ACUMEN data platform (Fivetran, Coalesce, Snowflake, AWS). This role takes ownership of assigned data engineering areas and collaborates with Data Architects and analysts to deliver reliable, well-documented data products supporting the Snowflake-First architecture.
The Data Engineer position reports to the Principal Data Integration Architect and can be based out of our home office in Topeka, Kansas, or remotely for the right candidate. We work a hybrid schedule, offering flexibility to work both remotely and on-site.
  • Independently develop, test, and deploy data pipelines and transformations using Snowflake, Coalesce, Fivetran, and AWS services
  • Implement ELT processes following DTS's Extract-Load-Transform architecture pattern and Snowflake-First principles
  • Build and maintain Snowflake-native transformations, data marts, and analytics-ready datasets
  • Ensure data quality through validation logic, monitoring, automated testing, and alerting
  • Collaborate with Data Architects to implement designs in alignment with platform standards
  • Document pipelines including data flow diagrams, source-to-target maps, and transformation logic in Confluence
  • Support legacy system data operations (MS SQL Server, SSIS) during migration period and contribute to repointing reports from legacy systems to Snowflake
  • Participate in on-call rotation for data platform operations
  • Follow DTS ACUMEN onboarding standards when integrating new data sources

What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field
  • 2-4 years of data engineering experience
  • Strong SQL proficiency including complex queries and performance tuning
  • Experience with Snowflake or a comparable cloud data warehouse
  • Familiarity with Coalesce, dbt, Fivetran, or comparable ELT/pipeline tools
  • Working knowledge of AWS data services (S3, Glue, Lambda)
  • Familiarity with version control (Git) and CI/CD practices
