Hydraulic Data Technician / Environmental Data Analyst

Help turn complex environmental data into meaningful insights that support healthier, more efficient water and wastewater systems.

We are seeking a detail-oriented Hydraulic Data Technician / Environmental Data Analyst to join our environmental services team. In this role, you will collect, clean, maintain, analyze, and monitor hydraulic and environmental data for municipal and industrial clients.

You will evaluate data for trends, patterns, outliers, discrepancies, and potential equipment or system issues. Data sources may include sanitary, combined, and storm sewer flow monitoring, sewer system evaluation surveys, wastewater treatment plant records, rainfall data, pump station data, real-time monitoring systems, collection system schematics, and other relevant information.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with numbers, solving problems, investigating unusual data, and producing accurate, professional reports. You will also develop a practical understanding of hydraulic monitoring equipment, field procedures, and typical sensor installations, including an accompanied visit to an active field monitoring location.

What You’ll Do

  • Analyze hydraulic and environmental data for calibration, trends, patterns, outliers, and discrepancies using graphical and statistical methods.
  • Review sanitary, combined, and storm sewer flow data, rainfall data, pump station records, wastewater treatment plant data, and other relevant information.
  • Follow established processes for routine data processing, quality control, audits, and preparation of client deliverables.
  • Identify questionable or inconsistent data and recommend practical solutions for correcting persistent issues.
  • Apply mathematics, basic statistics, and hydraulic principles to evaluate flow monitoring results.
  • Develop an understanding of flow-monitoring methods, sensors, equipment, field procedures, and common installation configurations.
  • Participate in an accompanied on-site visit to a flow-monitoring location with an experienced field crew.
  • Perform basic data maintenance, including backing up, archiving, restoring, combining, and separating data files.
  • Organize and manage multiple assignments while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Communicate clearly with field personnel, technicians, analysts, co-workers, management, and clients in person and remotely.
  • Learn and use specialized software packages for hydraulic and environmental data analysis.
  • Assist with the preparation of accurate, timely, and professional-quality reports, charts, tables, and presentations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, or a related field preferred.
  • Degrees with a strong emphasis in mathematics, statistics, physical sciences, environmental science, or data analysis will also be considered.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Basic understanding of statistics and data interpretation.
  • Ability to process and review large volumes of data accurately and efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency with standard business software, including spreadsheets, word-processing programs, databases, and presentation or graphics applications.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly in writing and verbally.
  • Willingness to learn hydraulic principles, flow-monitoring methods, sensor technology, and industry-specific software.
