Job description

Position Summary

The Process Engineer will apply their technical knowledge and operating experiences to troubleshoot and resolve process related issues in a timely fashion for safe, stable, and optimized plant performance. The engineer will seek new ways to improve the operation by identifying process improvement opportunities and executing approved projects with innovative and cost-effective solutions. The process engineer is expected to have a strong work ethic and work independently with minimal oversight from supervision. The person in this role will be a leader in the organization and should conduct themselves professionally as they interact with all site personnel. Communication in this role is key to make the most of the engineer’s technical expertise and the conveyance of knowledge to others to enhance the technical capabilities throughout the operations organization.

Position Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot problems within the Methanol and Ammonia manufacturing facilities.
• Monitor performance of processes through all stages of production interacting daily with the operations group.
• Identify ways to optimize performance or to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
• Conduct research to develop new and cost-effective ways of solving common operating issues.
• Participate in the development and management of area plant improvement projects.
• Design, plan, and execute approved project assignments.
• Monitor and at times direct activities to ensure construction, installation, and testing match the specifications of assigned projects.
• Provide production progress reports and plant efficiency studies as requested by management.
• Collect data and work with catalyst providers to evaluate catalyst performance ensuring catalyst efficiencies are understood and that catalyst life is projected for future turnaround planning.
• Develop or update as needed process flow diagrams and process and instrumentation drawings.
• Lead the Management of change process for most operational and process technical changes.
• Lead MOC and small capital project related Hazop Studies.
• Participate in 5-year cyclical unit wide PHA studies.
• Develop process operating procedures and limits to be employed by the operations group.
• Effectively communicate with all branches of the organization and assists other Departments as necessary.
• Always present a professional image.
• Follow all relevant company policies and procedures.

Position Qualifications

Education, Experience, and/or Training
• Bachelor of Science in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering required.
• 2+ years of experience preferred. Experience preferred as plant owners’ employee in a continuous process industry, preferably chemicals or oil refining.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
• Production and Processing — Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
• Complex Problem Solving — identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
• Critical Thinking — using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
• Judgment and Decision Making — Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
