Key Responsibilities

Insurance Domain Expertise

• Leverage deep knowledge of insurance operations, products, and workflows to understand complex business requirements
• Partner closely with business stakeholders to translate insurance-specific needs into data requirements
• Understand insurance industry metrics, regulatory reporting, and operational KPIs

Data Analysis & Reporting

• Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and analytical models using Power BI and Excel
• Perform ad-hoc analysis to support business decisions across underwriting, finance, and operations
• Manually assemble and reconcile data from disparate sources when automated solutions aren't yet in place
• Execute comprehensive data reconciliations to ensure accuracy and integrity across systems

Technical Capabilities

• Work within our current technology stack: Excel, Microsoft Fabric, and Power BI
• Understand data flows from source systems through our data environments
• Investigate how data is captured, transformed, and utilized across operational systems
• Identify and implement process improvements in data collection, validation, and distribution

Documentation & Requirements Management

• Create clear, comprehensive documentation of data requirements, business rules, and technical specifications
• Develop and maintain data dictionaries, process flows, and system documentation
• Document data lineage and transformation logic for transparency and auditability

Strategic Data Foundation Building

• Participate actively in designing and implementing our future-state data architecture
• Contribute to data governance frameworks, standards, and best practices
• Evaluate data quality and quantity requirements for downstream consumption (Finance, Management Reporting, KPIs)
• Support system implementations from a data perspective, ensuring proper capture and integration of critical data elements

Continuous Improvement

• Proactively identify opportunities to enhance data processes, automation, and efficiency
• Recommend improvements to data collection methods that align with strategic organizational goals
• Challenge existing approaches with innovative solutions while respecting operational constraints

Qualifications

Required:

• Insurance industry experience with demonstrated understanding of insurance operations, products, and data
• Proficiency in Excel (advanced functions, pivot tables, data manipulation)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work in ambiguous environments and adapt to changing priorities

Preferred:

• Experience with Microsoft Fabric and Power BI (or comparable modern data platforms and BI tools)
• Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and ETL/ELT processes
• Familiarity with SQL and data modeling principles
• Understanding of data governance and quality management practices
• Experience participating in enterprise system implementations
