Job description

Internal Candidate Identified

Under general supervision of faculty or senior staff member, to provide technological and methodological support for cold region research. Will conduct remote sensing and modeling research involving the design, implementation, and documentation/data archival of experiments and related support equipment. Will acquire, process, analyze, and interpret remote sensing imagery, GIS data, and field samples to evaluate spatial and temporal patterns of snow and soil conditions in winter periods at a range of scales. Will support the development of new grants and project proposals through writing and methodological contributions. Will lead communication of findings by writing refereed journal articles, conference presentations, and project reports.

Duties/Responsibilities

(30%)

  • Design and conduct modeling experiments using state of the art land surface and snow models. Lead model deployment and develop and implement input and output datasets.

  • Respond to and resolve problems as assigned; analyze problems and develop solutions.

  • Support the development and implementation of agency and academic partnerships to translate research to practice.

  • Provide training on models and data processing software one-on-one and small groups.

  • Develop research questions and conduct analyses of experimental data, in situ and remotely sensed datasets of winter conditions.

  • Prepare documentation/programs/scripts for general and specific data processing procedures and techniques.

  • Summarize findings and share them with the project team.

  • Prepare proposals, papers, and project reports.

  • Prepare reports, manuscripts, and conference presentations on project including descriptions of experimental setups, data collection and QA/QC, and analysis results.

  • Review the work of other team members. Present results at professional meetings.

(20%)

  • Manage project deliverables, timelines, and budgets.

  • Supervise and schedule technicians and student research assistants in setting up and conducting research.

  • Review Act as group representative in project meetings. Perform liaison work with subcontractors as necessary.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

  • Ph.D. degree in appropriate field of Engineering or in a closely related scientific or technical field.

  • Remote Sensing skills as required for the project.

  • Computer modeling skills as required for the project.

  • Experience leading journal articles.

  • Some experience in basic research gained through work experience while at college or during employment

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Strong planning skills for managing and implementing complex tasks.

  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.

Required Licenses & Certifications:

  • NH Driver's License

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • R or Python programming expertise.

  • Drone Operator Certification.

  • Snowmobile operation experience.

  • Field experiment skills as required by project.

Compensation Pay Range:

$54,990.00 - $98,150.00
