A day in the life...
Wondering what a day in the life of a Population Health Data Analyst at The Iowa Clinic might look like?
The Population Health Data Analyst leads key strategic analytical projects for the organization, focused on population health, value-based care, quality, and medical cost. This includes but is not limited to building high impact business intelligence dashboards and reports, processing multiple complex datasets, and completing complex analytics and data mining projects. Strong communication skills will also be required to optimize communication across stakeholders, including ensuring all projects are delivered in a clear and impactful manner. The Population Health Data Analyst will need to be a team player, but also a self-starter who can work independently, show curiosity, and demonstrate initiative to own complex projects.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates ability to consistently meet expectations with minimal supervision while working in-person.
  • Develop reporting, analysis, and support for presentations, dashboards, and projects delivered in a timely manner, following internal reporting standards.
  • Collects, cleans, and prepares data from internal and external sources for use in building reports, models, and analyses.
  • Creates, maintains and trouble shoots data queries.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient and corporate/physician financial information.
  • Promotes a positive, professional image of The Iowa Clinic Management Company and The Iowa Clinic both internally and externally.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Critical thinker and self-starter who embraces change and can lead innovation in data processing, reporting and analytics with excellent verbal and communication skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail including reconciliation and validation, ability to prioritize and multitask while meeting deadlines
  • Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with all levels of staff and leadership, including helping to scope leadership requests and deliver desired results
  • Team player with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with business intelligence tools including Tableau, Power BI or related tools
Education: Bachelor's degree in analytics, statistics, mathematics, engineering
or a related field.
Licensure/Certification: None
Work Experience:
  • Over three years of previous experience in healthcare analytics or related field.
  • Experience working with healthcare data, including but not limited to electronic medical records (EMR), claims, health plan payer files, scheduling, billing, provider rosters, patient rosters, and more.
  • Experience building dashboards and data processing with business intelligence tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or a similar tool.
  • Experience with data coding languages such as Python, R, SQL or related tools.
  • Experience leading complex business analyses, including working with business leaders to understand objectives and delivering results in clear and impactful outputs.
  • Demonstrated experience with data reporting, querying, and manipulation of large data sets
