Position Overview

The Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) is seeking to hire qualified candidates with the opportunity to work in a dynamic, creative thinking, problem solving environment. This position serves as a Production Controller performing advanced information system operation control work, including independently analyzing, scheduling, and performing advanced production control functions according to the Master Schedule. In this role you will interpret and assist in the modification and alteration of the Master Schedule. Additionally, you will monitor the processing of computer jobs to guarantee execution and output according to schedule, including coordinating special handling and priorities. Essential Functions
  • Under general supervision, serves a Production Controller for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT), performing advanced information system operation control work, including independently analyzing, scheduling, and performing advanced production control functions according to the Master Schedule.
  • Monitors the processing of computer jobs and Mobius batch jobs to guarantee execution, output, and successful completion output to schedule, including coordinating special handling and priorities.
  • Verifies batch processing computer jobs have successfully completed, including reviewing jobs that abnormally terminate and take corrective action to restart processing or notify programming/system staff for required intervention.
  • Provides technical expertise, guidance and assistance to co-workers in resolving problematic situations and assists with job analysis work on abends and errors to achieve successful job completions for all library batch processing moves performed.
  • Prepares, packages and labels outputs for jobs requiring special handling, including performing various utility functions incidental to the processing of computer jobs that require special handling.
  • Monitors the appropriateness and accuracy of operation documentation maintained for completeness of information and reviews jobs and documentation for adherence to established standards.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
  • Requires three (3) years of previous related experience such as is typically gained at the Data Processing Technician level.
    OR
  • Requires two (2) years of college including coursework in the data processing field.
  • Requires two (2) years of related experience.

Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in production control operations, including the independent analysis, scheduling, and execution of batch processing using Job Control Language (JCL) while modifying JCL with special parameters to ensure accurate processing of production files and successful job completion, including performing library management functions (moves, purges, deletions, restorations) and conducting abend and utility analysis to resolve complex processing issues.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience utilizing 3270 emulation software such as BlueZone, with proficiency in Time-Sharing Options (TSO/ISPF) for conducting research analysis, troubleshooting job abends, and performing advanced system navigation and file management within a mainframe environment, including reviewing termination codes, executing corrective actions, and coordinating with programming and systems teams as required.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience utilizing automated job scheduling tools such as CAScheduler or similar, including the setup, monitoring, and coordination of batch job execution to ensure timely and accurate processing in a high-volume production environment.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience with online report viewing and archival/distribution software such as Mobius View or similar, including configuring user access, monitoring batch job output, and ensuring the integrity and availability of production reports for end user and stakeholders.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in disaster recovery planning and execution, including the analysis and maintenance of backup procedures for production libraries, system catalogs, and Category 1 applications to ensure business continuity and data integrity in the event of system failures or outages.
  • Ability to analyze data logically and exercise sound judgement in defining and evaluating problems of an operational or procedural nature.
  • Ability to gain and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors, clients, and others.
  • Developed verbal and written communication skills to present technical information clearly and precisely to diverse audiences, including business users, development teams, and agency executives.
