How much do data processing programmer jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 26, 2026, the average hourly pay for data processing programmer in the United States is $28.14, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $21.63 and $29.81 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Is data processing difficult?

Data processing as a programmer involves understanding data structures, algorithms, and often working with tools like SQL, Python, or specialized software. It requires attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to handle large datasets efficiently, but with training and experience, it becomes manageable. The difficulty varies based on the complexity of tasks and the level of expertise required.

What is the difference between Data Processing Programmer vs Data Analyst?

AspectData Processing ProgrammerData Analyst
Required CredentialsTypically a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; programming certificationsOften a degree in Statistics, Mathematics, or Business; data analysis certifications
Work EnvironmentPrimarily in IT departments, focusing on coding, database management, and automationIn business or research settings, analyzing data to generate insights
Employer & Industry UsageUsed across tech, finance, healthcare, and manufacturing industries for data processing tasksCommon in marketing, finance, healthcare, and consulting for decision-making support

While both roles involve working with data, Data Processing Programmers focus on coding, automating data workflows, and managing databases, whereas Data Analysts interpret data to provide actionable insights. Understanding these differences helps job seekers target the right roles based on their skills and career goals.

How much does data processing make?

Data processing programmers typically earn between $50,000 and $90,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Skilled programmers with knowledge of programming languages like Python or SQL and experience with data management tools tend to earn higher salaries. Entry-level positions may start lower, while senior roles or specialized skills can command higher pay.

How does a Data Processing Programmer typically collaborate with other teams within an organization?

Data Processing Programmers frequently work with data analysts, database administrators, and business intelligence teams to ensure that data workflows are efficient and reliable. Collaboration often involves gathering requirements, troubleshooting data inconsistencies, and optimizing processing scripts to meet evolving business needs. Open communication and regular meetings are common to align technical solutions with project goals, and programmers may also provide documentation and user support for automated processes they develop. This teamwork helps ensure data accuracy and supports decision-making across the organization.

What is the highest paying job in data?

In data-related fields, executive roles such as Chief Data Officer or Chief Data Scientist tend to be the highest paying, often earning six-figure salaries or more. These positions require extensive experience, advanced skills in data strategy, and leadership capabilities, typically within large organizations or tech companies.

What are Data Processing Programmers?

Data Processing Programmers are professionals who design, write, test, and maintain computer programs that process and manage large volumes of data. They work with programming languages and database systems to automate the collection, transformation, and analysis of data for organizations. Their responsibilities often include writing code to clean, organize, and store data efficiently, as well as troubleshooting any issues that arise during data processing. These programmers are essential in industries that rely on large datasets, such as finance, healthcare, and research.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Data Processing Programmer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Data Processing Programmer, you need strong programming skills (often in languages like Python, SQL, or Java), a solid understanding of data structures, and a relevant degree in computer science or a related field. Experience with data processing tools, database management systems, and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) platforms is commonly required. Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective problem-solving are valuable soft skills for this role. These skills ensure accurate, efficient handling of large datasets and help deliver reliable data solutions that support business decision-making.

Is data entry a permanent job?

Data processing programmers often work in roles that can be permanent or temporary, depending on the employer and project needs. Permanent positions typically offer benefits and job stability, while contract roles may be short-term. The permanency of a data entry or processing job depends on the employment arrangement and company policies.
