Job description

Description:

Provides oversight and leadership of operating data center facility, insures the safety and physical integrity of the data center and critical infrastructure including, but not limited to, equipment, staff and clients. Works directly with technical teams, account and sales teams, and vendor partners. Customer support responsibilities include escorting customers through the center on tours, responding to customer inquiries and coordinating with other teams. Administrative duties include supervision of data center operations staff, planning for capacity changes, adherence to data center operations procedures and ensuring compliance with government regulations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and direct all Data Center operations staff and monitor performance of their assigned duties
  • Ensure adherence to Data Center and company processes including, but not limited to change management, problem management, incident management; and regularly communicate, train and review the processes with all personnel associated with the Data Center
  • Establish and maintain customer/client relationships
  • Ensure all direct reports adhere to time tracking policies
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable codes (OSHA, NFPA, NEC, ASHRAE and others as applicable), government agencies, company directives and industry best practices as related to building equipment upgrades, retrofits, build-outs, maintenance, networking and security operations
  • Develop, manage and deliver within approved annual operating and capital budgets
  • Dedicating complete focus, attention and self-motivation towards continuous improvement of all phases of assigned operations
  • Adhering to Standard Operating / Safety Procedures and ensuring compliance by vendors, customers, and other parties
  • Providing overall management and coordination of emergency situations to include addressing customer concerns in a timely manner to eliminate and/or minimize possible downtime and inconvenience
  • Keep accurate and detailed records of Data Center operations functions and maintenance
  • Plan, develop, organize and prioritize various tasks with conflicting priorities
  • Support and interact with multiple teams across the organization with diverse needs
  • Provide leadership, direction, team building, coaching, and decision making for problem and conflict resolution with team members and peers
  • Understand the concept of N+1 configuration for all critical infrastructure and ensure adherence to that concept
  • Evaluate current status of all data center critical infrastructure and apply risk management fundamentals to prioritize repairs/replacement
  • Effectively operate and maintain data center building automation systems and critical infrastructure
  • Lead advanced Data Center projects including, but not limited to Facilities and Security Management; Data Center Layout and Design; Racking and Cabling; Capacity Planning; Vendor Management; and Sales Support
  • Publish and administer an annual preventative maintenance schedule
Requirements:

Required Skills:

  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing in a public or one on one setting
  • Demonstrated understanding of Data Center Operations (i.e. Environmental Management, Power Management, and Capacity Management)
  • Ability to use software applications such as Microsoft Office products and common management and monitoring systems
  • Understanding of industry security best practices and compliance
  • Knowledge of communications and service provider’s products and technologies
  • The ability to provide leadership, direction, team building, coaching, and decision making with employees and peers

Education and Experience:

  • 5-10 years of relevant work experience
  • Working Conditions:
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment
  • Work performed primarily indoors with regular exposure to medium voltage equipment and hazards associated with maintaining equipment systems (e.g. mechanical systems, infrastructure building automation systems and controls)
  • Frequent use of hand and power tools
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting and climbing in cramped spaces
  • Frequent use of ladders or man lift up to 20 feet
  • Frequently lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
