Emerging Technologies & Data Privacy Associate Attorney

Location: Chicago, IL
Salary: $325,000–$435,000

Direct Counsel is seeking an Emerging Technologies & Data Privacy Associate Attorney to join a leading global law firm's Entertainment & Media Group in Chicago. This opportunity is ideal for a senior-level associate with 6+ years of experience advising clients on emerging technologies, data privacy, advertising, and marketing matters.

The successful candidate will work on sophisticated privacy and technology transactions and counsel clients on cutting-edge issues involving artificial intelligence, AdTech, digital media, health data, biometric information, and children's and teenagers' data.

Responsibilities
  • Advise clients on data privacy, product compliance, emerging technology, advertising, and marketing matters.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate technology and data-related commercial agreements.

  • Counsel clients on data transactions, technology transactions, digital media, and advertising matters.

  • Advise clients on privacy and product compliance throughout the development and commercialization of products and services.

  • Develop and implement internal data protection and privacy programs.

  • Conduct privacy assessments and develop and maintain data maps.

  • Perform data protection impact assessments and advise clients on related compliance requirements.

  • Draft and update privacy policies and other privacy-related documentation.

  • Draft and negotiate data processing agreements and related data protection provisions.

  • Counsel clients through data incidents, including data breach response and related transactions.

  • Advise on cutting-edge and high-risk privacy issues involving artificial intelligence, AdTech, health data, biometric data, and children's and teenagers' data.

  • Advise clients regarding digital advertising technology and the legal and regulatory issues surrounding artificial intelligence.

  • Support clients on data privacy and technology issues arising in commercial and corporate transactions.

Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school.

  • 6+ years of relevant experience in emerging technologies, data privacy, advertising, and/or marketing.

  • Significant experience with privacy and product compliance and counseling.

  • Experience with technology transactions, data transactions, and commercial contract drafting and negotiation.

  • Experience with AdTech, digital media, and advertising transactions.

  • Experience advising on data breach response and related matters.

  • Experience developing internal data protection programs and conducting privacy assessments.

  • Experience building data maps and conducting data protection impact assessments.

  • Experience drafting privacy policies and negotiating data processing agreements.

  • Familiarity with legal and regulatory issues involving artificial intelligence and digital advertising technology.

  • Experience advising on high-risk privacy issues involving AI, AdTech, health data, biometric data, and/or children's and teenagers' data.

  • Excellent legal research, drafting, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage sophisticated matters independently while collaborating effectively with clients and legal teams.

  • Active Illinois Bar admission required.
