Top Central Texas Credit Union is seeking a Staff Attorney at our Temple, Texas, headquarters!

Position Summary

The Staff Attorney will serve as in-house legal counsel to the credit union, providing guidance on regulatory compliance, contract review, collections and bankruptcy matters, litigation management, real estate and lending transactions, employment law, and board governance. This role works closely with executive leadership, department heads, and outside counsel to protect the credit union's interests and support sound, compliant decision-making across the organization.
What you'll do:

  • Provide legal advice and counsel to the executive team on a wide range of legal and regulatory matters
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, vendor agreements, and third-party service agreements
  • Monitor and interpret federal and state laws and regulations affecting credit unions and advise on compliance implications
  • Oversee and direct the work of paralegal and support staff
  • Manage or oversee litigation, including collections, foreclosures, and bankruptcy proceedings involving the credit union
  • Support lending, real estate, and collateral recovery matters, including loan documentation and workout agreements
  • Assist with employment law matters, including policy review, disputes, and HR guidance
  • Support board governance matters, including bylaws, policy drafting, and meeting materials
  • Coordinate with and manage outside counsel on specialized or high-exposure matters
  • Assist in developing and delivering internal training on legal and regulatory topics
  • Stay current on emerging legal issues affecting financial institutions, including data privacy, AI governance, and consumer protection law

We’re looking for:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • Active member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of relevant legal experience, ideally in banking, financial services, commercial law, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of contract law, regulatory compliance, and collections/bankruptcy processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts for non-legal audiences
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters

Preferred qualifications:

  • Prior in-house counsel experience with a credit union, bank, or other financial institution
  • Familiarity with NCUA regulations and credit union operations
  • Experience with real estate transactions, UCC matters, or secured lending
