This role supports our Engineered Control Solutions (ECS) Division, which designs and delivers advanced engineered control technologies across OEM, Industrial, and Municipal markets. This position is based in our Birmingham, Alabama office. Candidate will be required to work on-site Monday through Friday.

The job:

The Sales & Commercial Operations Intern – Data Analytics role is designed to support the SJE ECS Commercial Operations, Sales Leadership and Finance teams through the collection, validation, analysis and reporting of business data from CRM, ERP and Power BI systems. This role will help establish a single source of truth for business reporting and support data-driven decision making for Commercial, Finance and Operations leadership through analytics, KPI development, dashboard creation, forecasting, data governance, data cleansing and executive reporting.

The skills you need:

To succeed in this role, you must have experience with:

  • Analyze current and historical sales, bookings, revenue, margin and customer data.
  • Create recurring reports for Commercial and Finance.
  • Identify trends, opportunities and business risks.
  • Support monthly business reviews and quarterly business reviews.
  • Assist with forecasting, pipeline analysis and strategic planning.
  • Support CRM data quality initiatives.
  • Build and enhance Power BI dashboards.
  • Support ERP reporting and backlog analysis.
  • Create documentation and KPI definitions

Education, Experience and Ability Requirements:

Degree studies in Business analytics, finance, data science, Information systems, engineering, statistics or business. Advanced Excel, Power BI, CRM systems, ERP systems skills. Strong analytical and communication skills

Typical CRM / ERP / Finance / PowerBI data requirements:

  • Bookings by salesperson, region, customer, market segment and product line.
  • Pipeline value, pipeline coverage, win rates, loss rates, forecast accuracy, opportunity aging, deal size, sales cycle duration, quote conversion rates, activity metrics, account growth, customer retention, new customer acquisition, territory performance and account segmentation.
  • Orders received, orders shipped, orders invoiced, backlog, backlog aging, lead times, inventory availability, inventory turns, manufacturing performance, shipment performance, customer order trends, product mix, pricing trends and margin performance.
  • Revenue, gross margin dollars, gross margin percentage, EBITDA, SG&A; operating expenses, cost of sales, cash flow, accounts receivable, DSO, inventory value, inventory turns, forecast versus actual performance and profitability by customer and product.
  • Dashboards including; commercial KPI dashboard, customer dashboard, product dashboard, finance dashboard and customer analytics
