Senior Research & Data Analyst is responsible for the development, collection, maintenance, and operations for a portfolio of assigned standard data collections and reports including quality metrics, utilization metrics, work effort, and financial metrics as appropriate. Supports and coaches junior staff for complex tasks and collaborates with technical leaders for guidance related to enhancing data operations and services. Develops, implements, and evolves programming and documentation for assigned data and reports, including programming and documentation about what members or constituents are eligible to participate and have access to assigned data collections and reports. Collaborates and consults with internal and external partners on enhancements to data collections and reporting systems.
How you will make an impact?
Execute Data Collection and Reporting Systems Related to Applicant, Student, and Trainee Data and Reports:
Specific responsibilities and deliverables related to this duty include:
  • Be responsible for data assets and systems related to the National GME Census in GME Track, the FACTS tables, the ERAS National Statistics tables, the Primary Care Loan Report, the Report on Residents, and additional data and reporting assets as assigned from other DOS teams and data teams from other clusters. As appropriate, mentor less senior colleagues on these data assets and systems.
  • Develop, collect, verify, maintain, and report data about and from members and constituents.
  • Develop, implement, and update programming and documentation for assigned data and reports, including programming and documentation about what institutions and individuals are eligible to receive the corresponding data collections and data reports.
  • Produce and maintain programming and databases for collecting data, importing data, managing data, checking data, engaging with members and constituents as required for data quality questions, linking data, analyzing data, reporting data, and distributing data, using AAMC IT approved tools such as SQL, PL/SQL, PostgreSQL, VBA, Python, HTML, HighCharts, JavaScript, and Verint.
  • Mentor less senior colleagues to expand in their knowledge of this work.
  • Monitor the soundness, timeliness, impact, efficiency, and security of data collection and data reporting services. Monitoring occurs through, for example, performing data quality checks and investigating discrepancies, verifying, and resolving data issues.
  • Develop and/or maintain recurring data collections and administer data collections to members and constituents.
  • Write and maintain office manuals, runbooks, and similar materials that describe the procedures for running data collection and data reporting services; review materials from less senior staff in a collegial manner.
  • Collaborate with IT colleagues to support IT-maintained applications, data collections, and integration with other data and analytical offerings. Coach and assist junior staff for IT-related activities such as developing requirements and user acceptance testing.
  • Support and coach junior staff on more complex tasks and for addressing technical and process issues and improvement opportunities.
  • Engage with data collection participants, report recipients, and other users with content questions, reminders, extensions, quality control checks, or similar operational concerns.

Contribute to Unit and AAMC Process Improvement and Training Related to Data Collection and Reporting Systems:
Specific responsibilities and deliverables related to this duty include:
  • Consult with colleagues and constituents (including, but not limited to, data respondents, report users, subject matter experts, researchers, and IT staff) on ways to enhance data collections, standard reports, research reports, external/internal ad hoc reports, and other analytical offerings. Support junior staff and unit supervisors to synthesize and prioritize the input from colleagues and constituents.
  • Contribute to IT initiatives related to infrastructure changes, data access and security, and system modernizations and updates, providing support for junior staff as well as alerting unit supervisors about risk and benefits.
  • Represent the unit, the cluster, and the AAMC data community in internal and external discussions around data collection, analytics, and reporting.
  • Maintain accurate financial and timekeeping records to support ongoing prioritization, enterprise portfolio management, and impact analyses as required for assigned data assets.
  • Apply knowledge and experience to solve problems and to identify root causes of onetime or recurring issues and recommend solutions.
  • Be a good steward of AAMC time and resources; escalate potential issues early enough to ensure that collaboration with other colleagues will result in on-time, high-quality, impactful, efficient, and secure data services.
  • Help with other data assets and their associated analytical offerings, as required.
  • Manage the tracking of internal and external data requests across the AAMC. This duty includes reviewing data requests, fulfilling data requests, and triaging data requests to other staff as appropriate.

Serve as Data Steward, Data Lead, or Technical Contact for assigned data assets:
Serve as a Data Asset Owner for assigned data assets, executing job responsibilities consistent with AAMC policies and procedures, including:
  • Completing all required internal and external Data Asset Owner training.
  • Determining the appropriate level of internal and external access to data assets.
  • Enforcing appropriate data access, publication, and security policies and procedures, including but not limited to those of:
  • Survey and Research Central (e.g., for guidance about Human Subjects Research Protection Program issues, IRB, and Data Collection/Research Registration and standards);
  • OCOMM (e.g., for guidance about publishing standards and AAMC messaging on policy and advocacy);
  • Legal (e.g., for guidance about data privacy and anti-trust considerations);
  • IT (e.g., for guidance about information security and about approved technologies for data collection, management, analytics, and reporting).
  • Respond to internal and external ad hoc requests about data and reports, as well as reviewing and processing external data requests.

What you will bring to the role:
Required Qualifications:
Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree
Preferred Education: A master's degree or doctoral degree would be preferred, with course work in quantitative reasoning and qualitative reasoning. Courses of study might include topics such as computer programming, data analysis, data visualizations, economics, information systems, mathematics, psychometrics, research and evaluation, sociology, statistics, survey construction, survey sampling, and related topics.
Minimum Experience of Related Work:5-7 years of related work experience
Minimum Supervisory or Subject Matter Expertise:3-5 years of experience managing a specialized program
Additional Minimum Experience:
  • Experience with quantitative, qualitative, and logical reasoning; self-directed knowledge acquisition and application;
  • Programming, database design, data security, data standards, data processing, relational databases, data instrument construction, data visualization, and report writing;
  • Collaborative working environments;
  • Time management, resource management, quality control, and continuous quality improvement.

Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in data collection, analysis, and reporting in small to large organizations where data are critical to delivering on strategy, mission, and services to members and constituents.

Remote Work Eligibility
This position is eligible for remote work in the contiguous US
Compensation Grade Range
$105,315.00-$123,900.00
Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors may include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, as well as internal equity, market, and business considerations.
If a bachelor's degree is required, related work experience may be substituted in some positions. One year of college course work at an accredited institution is equivalent to one year of related work experience.
