Data Modernization & Governance Consultant
Location: Remote
Duration: 6-12+ months (long-term engagement)
Role Overview
Seeking a senior consultant to act as a strategic partner to analytics leadership, bridging business and IT to accelerate data modernization and governance initiatives. This role emphasizes soft skills, executive communication, and the ability to translate business needs into actionable technical requirements. The consultant will help define vision, document requirements, coordinate stakeholders, and drive execution across data, governance, and AI workstreams.
Key Responsibilities
  • Shape and document the organization's end-to-end data modernization vision.
  • Establish practical approaches for governance, role-based access, and operating models.
  • Partner closely with analytics leadership while serving as an on-the-ground liaison.
  • Translate business needs into clear technical requirements, plans, and documentation.
  • Build project artifacts including roadmaps, deliverables, status updates, and executive-ready presentations.
  • Support initiatives involving Denodo, Databricks, Watson, and related AI/data platforms.
  • Bring structure to fragmented data, migration, governance, and integration efforts.
  • Coordinate across US and India-based teams, managing dependencies and risks across pilots and POCs.
Required Experience
  • Senior-level consultant with strong technical fluency and program delivery instincts.
  • 5+ years of experience in data migration and modernization initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Databricks; exposure to Denodo, Watson, Snowflake, or similar platforms is a plus.
  • Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Proven ability to produce clear documentation (SRS, technical artifacts, executive materials).
  • Experience navigating governance, ARB, and approval bottlenecks.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and storytelling skills.
  • Pragmatic, organized, and execution-focused; able to operate independently in ambiguous environments.
  • PM/BA capability with stronger technical and delivery orientation than a pure project manager.
Success Factors
  • Provides a clear, documented vision for modernization efforts.
  • Improves alignment between business and IT teams.
  • Creates stronger documentation for smoother IT handoffs.
  • Accelerates momentum across pilots, POCs, and modernization workstreams.
  • Sets a practical foundation for future large-scale initiatives.
