Job description

Job Description

Applied Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in insurance technology, is currently searching for a Data Migration Engineer to join our Data Services team. This role is responsible for migrating customer data from competitor and legacy systems into Applied Systems SaaS products while ensuring business continuity, data quality, and customer satisfaction.

As a strategic contributor within Data Services, the Data Migration Engineer works closely with new and existing customers to deliver high quality, customized data migration solutions that support unique business needs. The role collaborates cross functionally with teams across Onboarding and Success Services, Development, Operations, Solution Services, and Support to deliver complex, end-to-end migration outcomes.

While this role involves taking ownership of assigned tasks and tickets, it operates as part of a global Data Services team leveraging a Follow the Sun delivery model to keep data moving across regions and time zones. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, adaptability, and the ability to contribute effectively to a broader team-based delivery motion as tools, platforms, and processes continue to evolve.

What You'll Do

  • Own and execute assigned components of end-to-end data conversion and migration efforts from legacy systems to Applied Systems SaaS products, producing sample and final deliveries using SQL-based tooling
  • Perform data extractions, acquisition mergers, transformations, and data cleanup/quality services to support a wide range of customer scenarios and business requirements
  • Develop standardized, efficient, and repeatable data scripts and workflows; perform audits and validation to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency throughout the migration lifecycle
  • Work directly with customers and internal stakeholders to understand requirements, manage expectations, and deliver migration outcomes that maintain business continuity
  • Contribute to a global delivery model by completing work independently while ensuring smooth handoffs and continuity across teams operating in different regions and time zones
  • Remain adaptable to changing project plans and timelines, adjusting execution approaches as rescheduling or contingency planning is required
  • Collaborate closely with Development teams to support testing, defect resolution, enhancements, and implementation of new or evolving solutions, while maintaining clear and accurate Data Services documentation
  • Conduct ongoing analysis of customer data and competitor system structures, identifying opportunities to improve transformation efficiency and solution quality
  • As Data Services tooling evolves, increasingly leverage cloud-based data platforms such as BigQuery to support migration workflows and downstream integrations
  • Utilize emerging automation and intelligent tooling to improve migration speed, scalability, and quality, and provide feedback that helps shape how these tools are adopted responsibly
  • Contribute to custom solution delivery and continuous improvement initiatives that advance Data Services capabilities, tooling, and processes

What You'll Need to Succeed

We're looking for someone who:

  • Can work remotely or from an Applied Systems office

Your experience should include some or all the following:

  • Strong foundational knowledge of database structures and SQL, with demonstrated experience applying these skills in real world data migration, integration, or transformation scenarios
  • Solid understanding of ETL concepts, data mapping, and data quality best practices
  • Comfort working in a collaborative, global team environment where work is shared across regions to maintain continuous delivery
  • Ability to manage multiple competing project timelines while remaining highly detail oriented and customer focused
  • Strong sense of ownership and initiative, balanced with the ability to align work to shared team standards, processes, and delivery goals
  • Clear and effective communication skills, including the ability to collaborate comfortably with engineering teams and nontechnical stakeholders
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline
    • We know that talent comes from all backgrounds and experience levels. We encourage military members and their spouses as well as candidates without a degree or a background in tech to apply!

Additionally, You May Have

  • Hands-on experience supporting SaaS data migration or ETL initiatives in a production environment
  • Experience or exposure to Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including BigQuery and Cloud Storage
  • Experience working with automation frameworks, scripting, or intelligent tools to support data analysis, migration, or quality assurance
  • Interest in helping evaluate, validate, or refine AI assisted or agent-based workflows as part of future data migration capabilities
  • Experience using Jira, SharePoint, or similar tools to track work, collaborate across teams, and document technical processes
