What is a data migration project manager?

A Data Migration Project Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing and coordinating the transfer of data from one system or storage location to another. They plan, manage, and execute data migration projects, ensuring data integrity, minimizing downtime, and meeting business objectives. This role involves collaborating with IT teams, stakeholders, and vendors to ensure a smooth and secure migration process. Data Migration Project Managers also address risks, troubleshoot issues, and communicate project status to all involved parties.

What are some common challenges faced by data migration project managers during large-scale migration projects?

Data Migration Project Managers often encounter challenges such as managing data integrity during transfers, aligning diverse stakeholder expectations, and handling unexpected legacy system issues. Coordinating cross-functional teams to ensure seamless communication and timely execution is also a frequent hurdle.
