The Opportunity
Position Summary:
The Data Governance & Analytics Manager serves as a strategic partner within the Institutional Research office, guiding the stewardship, accuracy, and effective use of institutional data across the university. Reporting to the Executive Director of Institutional Research & Data Governance, the Manager plays a central role in developing and implementing data governance practices, facilitating collaboration among data stewards and campus partners, and ensuring that data is stored, documented, and accessed in ways that support compliance reporting and informed decisionmaking. The Manager works closely with stakeholders to clarify dashboard requirements and designs usercentered, accessible visualizations aligned with institutional priorities. As a connector between technical teams, subject matter experts, and executive decisionmakers, the Data Governance & Analytics Manager helps ensure that institutional data is trusted, consistent, and responsibly leveraged to advance the university's strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities & Oversight
Data Management & Governance:
- Implement a framework that outlines the authority and decision-making processes for data-related activities, and the appropriate management of institutional data.
- Engage governance teams by aligning subject matter experts, IT and IR specialists, data domain stewards, and other stakeholders in a matrix model. Ensure that the entire network has the resources and shared organizational structure to allow seamless building upon the work of others within the model.
- Facilitate communication and coordination among governance teams, subject matter experts, data stewards, IT, and other stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive catalog of dashboard-related data, including standards, definitions, lineage, and governance guidelines.
Dashboard Strategy & Development:
- Define clear ownership by identifying primary stakeholders and data stewards responsible for maintaining visualizations. Develop and document a standardized process for requesting, prioritizing, and developing new visualizations to ensure alignment, avoid duplication, and promote consistency in data usage.
- Evaluate existing vendor-provided and internally developed dashboards to assess the effectiveness of current analytics tools and processes. Identify unmet needs, usability issues, and opportunities for consolidation, enhancement, or development to ensure analytics solutions remain relevant and actionable.
- Design and develop cross-functional and executive-level dashboards.
Optimize Institutional Research Data & Content:
- Maintain and enhance the Institutional Research (IR) data portal, public website, and internal site, ensuring intuitive navigation and timely, accurate content.
- Ensure that IR dashboards are visually consistent, branded, user-friendly, and aligned with institutional priorities.
- Curate and maintain the IR data library, ensuring accessibility and version control of key institutional data assets.
