The Opportunity
As a Business Consultant within the Business Intelligence, Reporting & Analytics (BIRA) team, you'll be at the center of driving high-impact, cross-functional efforts that enable data-informed decision-making across MassMutual Operations. This role is ideal for someone who engages from a place of optimism, who thrives in dynamic environments, brings structure to ambiguity, and excels at aligning people, plans, and priorities to deliver measurable outcomes.
You'll lead initiatives from intake through execution and closeout-ensuring clarity of purpose, strong stakeholder engagement, and disciplined follow-through. Working closely with Internal Business Partners (IBPs), data professionals, and operational leaders, you'll help translate evolving business needs into actionable plans, track the progress against them, and lead the effort to the realization of business value - all while fostering and participating in a culture of ownership, transparency, and continuous improvement.
This is a unique opportunity to apply your critical/strategic thinking, facilitation, problem solving, and organization skills, along with executional rigor in a role that blends business analysis, initiative leadership, and team enablement.
The Team
The Data Strategy, Business Intelligence, Reporting & Analytics team enables Operations and key business partners across MassMutual by providing actionable insights to inform both strategic initiatives and operational decisions. Using industry leading tools, we empower all levels of the organization via analytics, reporting, data management, visualization, business technology, and more. In short, we consult and partner with leaders on business intelligence needs, representing information in business-friendly terms with powerful visualizations. Our work enables advisor centricity, business performance, and aligns associate activity metrics with operations goals. On any given day, this could mean sourcing and structuring internal data, integrating third party data, deriving analytical insight, creating leading/lagging indicators, or guiding data literacy to engage users in data driven decisioning across their teams. We are businesspeople first, but we understand technology, coding, and modeling - bringing it together to guide functional strategy with analytics.
The Impact:
  • Own the end-to-end scope of assigned initiatives within the BIRA program, ensuring clarity of objectives, alignment to business needs, and timely delivery of outcomes.
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for initiative execution-facilitating kick-off meetings, managing stakeholder engagement, and maintaining clear documentation throughout the lifecycle.
  • Apply systems thinking to connect initiative goals with broader BIRA strategy, identifying interdependencies, risks, and opportunities for synergy across workstreams.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners-including ETX and internal BIRA teams-to ensure seamless handoffs, shared understanding, and aligned execution.
  • Leverage standardized tools and processes (e.g., Jira, requirements templates, status indicators) to drive transparency, consistency, and accountability across initiatives.
  • Monitor and report on initiative health through regular status updates, proactively flagging blockers, risks, or misalignments to ensure sustained momentum and timely resolution.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of initiative management practices by sharing insights, identifying process gaps, and modeling best practices in execution.
  • Bring a positive, solution-oriented mindset to challenges, with a strong belief in continuous learning, adaptability, and growth.

The Minimum Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience leading medium to large-scale initiatives, with demonstrated ownership of scope, stakeholder engagement, and execution in a cross-functional environment OR
  • 4+ years of experience in initiative or program management, business consulting, technical delivery, or a related field.
  • High School Diploma

The Ideal Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex initiatives into structured, milestone-driven plans and visual timelines (e.g., Gantt charts, RACI, work breakdown structures, resource tracking spreadsheets, etc.), supported by clear, comprehensive documentation and project artifacts aligned with departmental standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to seamlessly shift context across multiple initiatives, meetings, and priorities throughout the day-maintaining clarity, focus, and productivity in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Confident leading meetings and discussions that surface blockers, align stakeholders, and drive decisions-regardless of formal authority.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and shifting priorities, with a strong ability to anticipate change and adjust plans accordingly.
  • Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, and Microsoft Copilot to support initiative tracking, documentation, and communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and connect solutions to business outcomes.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to synthesize complex information and present clearly to diverse audiences.
