Job description

We are looking for an intern to join our Historic Site Facilities team and work alongside our professional Arborist in caring for Northeast Church Historic Sites. This would include the Sacred Grove and Hill Cumorah and may include the Priesthood Restoration Site and Joseph Smith Birthplace

Under the guidance of our experienced Arborist, this position will engage in hands-on tasks aimed at preserving and enhancing the natural beauty of these sacred locations. This internship offers a unique opportunity to be immersed in the daily work of an Arborist while contributing to the stewardship of these beautiful historic sites.

No prior arboriculture experience is necessary. We are looking for an intern with a desire to apply themselves diligently and be dedicated to this unique and sacred work.

This is a 6-9-month internship located in Palmyra, NY. Housing potential.

Required:

  • Paid Interns are qualified while enrolled in an educational institution and for one year following graduation. 
  • Must sign a Paid Internship Engagement Letter.
  • Must have a vehicle and a current driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain a sound judgment of Church doctrine, history, organization, policy and protocol.

Preferred:

  • Pursuing an education in an environmental field.
  • Duties may include but are not limited to work in landscaped and forested areas including:
    • Pruning
    • Trail maintenance
    • Invasive species control
    • Chainsaw work (and use of other related tools)
  • Responsibilities may vary by assignment depending on team needs and includes:
    • Some routine cleaning and minor maintenance of buildings.
    • Receive assignments from supervising staff, primarily the staff arborist.
    • Meet rigid and challenging deadlines, work in harmony with other people, take direction on each assignment, and give full attention to detail.
