Job description

Site Superintendent

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Civil Site Superintendent to lead large-scale site development projects from preconstruction through completion. This role is ideal for a seasoned field leader with a strong background managing major civil/site packages, including bulk earthwork, utilities, paving, grading, and complex phased construction.

The Civil Site Superintendent will play a key role in both project pursuit and project execution. Before a project is awarded, this person may support estimating and operations by reviewing plans, helping evaluate workflow, identifying execution challenges, and providing field-based input on how the work should be planned and managed. Once awarded, the Superintendent will lead day-to-day field operations and ensure the project is delivered safely, efficiently, and to quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead field operations for large civil/site development projects, typically in the $10 million to $30 million+ range.
  • Manage complex site packages involving bulk earthwork, grading, utilities, pipe work, paving, stormwater, site preparation, and related scopes.
  • Support estimating and preconstruction teams by reviewing plans, evaluating constructability, identifying work sequencing, and providing input on project execution strategy.
  • Oversee daily site activities, crews, foremen, assistant superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, and field support personnel.
  • Coordinate closely with project managers, general superintendents, estimators, clients, engineers, inspectors, and general contractors.
  • Lead and mentor field personnel, including developing younger superintendents, foremen, operators, and assistant-level team members.
  • Track daily progress, materials, production, job logs, equipment usage, manpower, and field documentation.
  • Proactively identify and resolve field issues, schedule conflicts, plan discrepancies, and production obstacles.
  • Ensure work is performed according to plans, specifications, safety requirements, company standards, and client expectations.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a proven civil construction leader who has managed large, complex site packages from start to finish. This person should be comfortable stepping into high-value projects, working with estimating before award, building execution plans, and then leading the field once the project is active.

Strong candidates may come from backgrounds such as:

  • Large commercial site development
  • Big-box warehouse site packages
  • Data center site preparation
  • Industrial site development
  • Large residential or multi-phase sitework
  • Heavy civil/site construction
  • Bulk earthwork and mass grading
  • Utility and paving-heavy site packages

Direct data center experience is helpful but not required. Experience managing similar workflows, large earthmoving quantities, site utilities, paving, and phased site construction is more important.

Required Qualifications

  • Significant experience as a Civil Superintendent, Site Superintendent, or similar field leadership role.
  • Proven experience managing large sitework/civil packages, preferably in the $10 million to $30 million+ range.
  • Strong background in bulk earthwork, grading, pipe, utilities, paving, and overall site development.
  • Experience managing large crews, field teams, subcontractors, and multiple scopes of work at once.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil plans, specifications, schedules, drawings, and project documents.
  • Ability to work with estimating and project management teams during pursuit, preconstruction, and execution.
  • Strong communication skills with field teams, office staff, owners, engineers, inspectors, and general contractors.
  • Safety-focused mindset and commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and compliant jobsite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with large warehouse, logistics, industrial, or data center site development projects.
  • Experience managing projects involving 500,000+ cubic yards of earthwork.
  • Experience with large crews, including 25 to 50+ direct field employees and additional subcontractor personnel.
  • Experience with GPS machine control, drone-based quantity tracking, or production measurement tools.
  • Experience using Microsoft Project, Excel, Propeller, Trimble, B2W, HCSS, HeavyJob, iAuditor, or similar construction management platforms.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation is open and will be based on experience, project background, and overall fit. The role is expected to come with a strong compensation package aligned with the level of responsibility and expectations.

Additional benefits may include:

  • Company vehicle
  • Laptop and technology tools
  • Relocation support for qualified candidates
  • Long-term growth opportunity within operations, project management, estimating, or general superintendent leadership
