How much do data ingestion jobs pay per year?

As of Sep 6, 2026, the average yearly pay for data ingestion in the United States is $126,123.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $102,000.00 and $159,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is data ingestion?

Data ingestion is the process of collecting and importing data from various sources into a storage or processing system, such as a database, data warehouse, or data lake. It involves transferring raw data, which may come from different formats and platforms, into a centralized location for analysis and further processing. Data ingestion can be done in real-time (streaming) or in batches, depending on business needs and data velocity. This process is crucial for organizations to make informed decisions based on comprehensive, up-to-date information.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a data ingestion specialist?

To thrive as a Data Ingestion Specialist, you need a strong understanding of data pipelines, ETL processes, and experience with databases, often supported by a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with tools such as Apache Kafka, Apache NiFi, SQL, and cloud platforms like AWS or Azure is typically required, along with knowledge of data integration frameworks. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication set top performers apart in this role. These skills are crucial to ensure the accurate, efficient, and secure movement of data across systems, supporting reliable analytics and business decisions.

What are some common challenges faced in a data ingestion role, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals working in data ingestion often encounter challenges such as handling diverse data formats, ensuring data quality, and maintaining data pipeline reliability. Managing large volumes of data from multiple sources can lead to issues with consistency, latency, and error handling. To address these, it is essential to implement robust validation processes, use scalable data ingestion tools, and closely collaborate with data engineering and source system teams. Continuous monitoring and regular pipeline optimization are also key practices to ensure smooth data flow and integrity.

What is the difference between Data Ingestion vs Data Analyst?

AspectData IngestionData Analyst
Required CredentialsKnowledge of ETL tools, SQL, basic scriptingDegree in statistics, data science, or related field; SQL, Excel, visualization skills
Work EnvironmentData engineering teams, IT departments, cloud platformsBusiness units, analytics teams, reporting environments
Industry UsageData pipelines, data warehouses, big data platformsData interpretation, reporting, decision support

Data ingestion involves collecting and importing data into storage systems, focusing on data pipelines and infrastructure. Data analysts interpret and analyze this data to generate insights. While data ingestion prepares data for analysis, data analysts focus on understanding and communicating data findings. Both roles are essential in data-driven organizations but serve different functions within the data lifecycle.

What does data ingestion do?

Data ingestion involves collecting and importing data from various sources into a storage or processing system, such as data warehouses or data lakes. It is a key step in data pipelines, enabling data analysis, reporting, and machine learning applications. Data ingestion requires knowledge of tools like ETL processes, APIs, and scripting languages to ensure efficient and accurate data transfer.

What skills are needed for data ingestion?

Data ingestion roles require skills in data processing, scripting languages like Python or SQL, and familiarity with data integration tools such as Apache NiFi or Talend. Knowledge of database management, data formats, and basic understanding of cloud platforms like AWS or Azure are also important for efficient data pipeline development.

Job description

What does the team work on?

The Ad Ops team at Roku plays a crucial role in driving the success of Roku's monetization strategy. This team is responsible for excellence in execution for our Direct IO and Programmatic businesses. This team books ad campaigns, QAs creatives, prepares reporting, and manages Deal IDs, using 1st and 3rd party ad tech. We are a very collaborative team, working closely with our Client Services, Inventory, and Product partners to meet advertisers' needs, while also optimizing and streamlining internal processes.

What is the role?

Roku is seeking a Senior Solutions Engineer, Ad Data Ingestion to join our Solutions Engineering team supporting Roku's advertising business. Roku's advertising business runs on the quality of the signals advertisers and partners send us, including conversions, audiences, and pixel-based events. This role is the technical owner of the ingestion surface: the Conversion API (CAPI) and CAPI gateway, the Audience Upload API, and JS pixels. You will work directly with clients and partners to get them integrated, keep those integrations healthy, and make sure the events flowing in are complete, well-identified, and trustworthy enough to power measurement and attribution. This role partners closely with Product, Engineering, and Ad Measurement to implement and support the technical solutions that drive Roku's advertising offerings. The ideal candidate brings a strong blend of ad tech domain expertise and hands-on technical skills, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where data quality directly impacts business outcomes.

For New York Only - The estimated annual salary for this position is between $123,250 - $175,100 annually. Compensation packages are based on factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, certifications, and specific geographical location. This role is eligible for health insurance, equity awards, life insurance, disability benefits, parental leave, wellness benefits, and paid time off.ย  ย

How will I use AI at Roku?

At Roku, we are committed to being an AI-first company. For technical and engineering roles, this means we are looking for candidates who have a strong foundation in AI/ML principles and experience applying them to real-world technical challenges. You should be comfortable working with AI-powered tools and frameworks, and eager to leverage AI to enhance your productivity and impact. We value engineers and technologists who can think critically about how AI can be integrated into our products, platforms, and processes to drive innovation and efficiency.

As part of our AI-first culture, you will be expected to stay current with emerging AI technologies and proactively identify opportunities to apply AI solutions within your domain. Whether it is automating routine tasks, improving data-driven decision-making, or building intelligent features, we want team members who see AI as a core part of how they work and what they build.

What are the responsibilities of the role?
  • Own client and partner integrations end to end for Conversion API, Audience API, and pixels, including technical discovery, implementation guidance, and configuration/validation
  • Troubleshoot and debug integration issues such as data loss, event mismatch, deduplication failures, and other data quality concerns
  • Scale partner integrations by leveraging existing products and turning repeatable integration patterns into self-service onboarding
  • Own technical documentation including implementation guides, event schemas, and best practices, and keep it up to date
  • Monitor ingestion health dashboards to catch regressions early and drive them to resolution
  • Partner closely with Product and Engineering to voice feedback from clients and partners, build optimizations on integration pathways, and act as technical point of contact for incidents
What experience would help someone be successful in this role at Roku?
  • 5-10 years of experience in AdTech or MarTech at a publisher, DSP, SSP, ad network, or agency, preferably in a Solutions, Integrations, or Professional Services Engineering role
  • 1-3 years of experience with data visualization tools such as Looker, Datadog, Tableau, or similar, including the ability to develop custom dashboards, looks, and views; hands-on experience with SQL, Hive, or another database technology
  • Deep, hands-on understanding of Conversion APIs (CAPI) and CAPI gateway patterns: server-side event ingestion, event deduplication (pixel + server), and event matching
  • Strong command of JS pixels and browser-based tracking, and how they behave across browsers and privacy constraints
  • Fluency with REST APIs, reading documentation, testing endpoints, and diagnosing payload/schema issues (Postman/cURL, JSON, auth flows)
  • A strong track record of providing technical support for external and internal stakeholders, particularly while overseeing complex integrations
  • Experience partnering with Engineering teams to triage and resolve issues quickly and efficiently
