Job description

Job Title: SAP SME Consultant

Location: Neenah, WI or Oconomowoc, WI Onsite (Local candidates or those willing to relocate to Wisconsin will be considered)

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced SAP SME Consultant with strong SAP ABAP expertise across both ECC and S/4HANA environments. This role focuses on validating technical specifications written for extracting SAP data into a data lake, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and alignment with business logic. The ideal candidate will have deep technical knowledge, strong analytical abilities, and the capability to interact with both technical and functional teams to ensure high-quality documentation deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, analyze, and validate technical specifications written by SAP ABAP developers in ECC and S/4HANA systems.
  • Reverse-engineer and interpret custom Z-tables across SAP modules such as FI, MM, SD, HR, and others.
  • Collaborate closely with functional teams to understand business logic, process flows, and data dependencies.
  • Prepare and validate comprehensive technical documentation including:
    • Data extraction logic
    • Field-level mappings
    • Business rule interpretation
    • Source-to-target lineage
  • Ensure specifications are clear enough for data engineers to develop accurate and scalable data lake ETL pipelines.
  • Perform deep-dive analysis of SAP customizations, enhancements, and underlying architecture.

Core ABAP (ECC & S/4HANA) Technical Expertise

  • Strong experience with Classical & OO ABAP

Advanced ABAP (S/4HANA-Centric)

  • CDS Views (Basic & Composite)

  • OData Services and Fiori Integration
  • RAP (ABAP RESTful Programming Model)
  • CDS Annotations
  • BOPF (Business Object Processing Framework)

Data Handling & Extraction

  • Z-table extraction with joins, filters, and delta logic
  • Performance tuning for SELECT queries
  • Open SQL and Native SQL experience
  • Data dictionary object creation (Z tables, views, domains, elements)
  • Handling ECC legacy clustered and pooled tables

Documentation & Technical Design

  • Strong experience preparing and reviewing Technical Specification Documents (TSDs)
  • Field-level mapping and source-to-target lineage documentation
  • Understanding of transformation rules and business logic interpretation
  • Ability to ensure functional-to-technical traceability

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8–10 years of SAP ABAP development experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in S/4HANA development
  • Hands-on experience in ECC to S/4HANA migration projects
  • Strong understanding of SAP modules: FI, CO, SD, MM, PP, SRM
  • Exposure to SAP BI/BW is an added advantage
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills
