Senior Data Architect - JIMS 3.0

Location: Remote within Canada (Occasional Edmonton onsite meetings - approximately 15%)

About the Project

The Government of Alberta is seeking a Senior Data Architect to support the Justice Information Management System (JIMS) 3.0 initiative.

JIMS 3.0 is a major data integration and modernization project that will consolidate multiple court reporting data marts into a centralized Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). The initiative will improve data governance, reporting capabilities, historical data preservation, and overall reporting efficiency across Alberta Courts.

The successful candidate will play a key role in designing and implementing enterprise data architecture, dimensional models, ETL processes, reporting structures, and data governance frameworks.

Responsibilities
  • Review and assess existing data marts and reporting environments.
  • Perform detailed data profiling and analysis.
  • Develop data architecture designs, mappings, and specifications.
  • Design and define Facts and Dimensions for enterprise reporting.
  • Develop and test ETL processes and data integration solutions.
  • Support Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) design and implementation.
  • Develop Power BI reports and dashboards for validation and testing.
  • Conduct quality assurance testing for Dimensions and Facts.
  • Update existing data models and architecture documentation.
  • Support data governance and data quality initiatives.
  • Participate in architecture reviews and design sessions.
  • Develop transition plans to support future-state data architecture.
  • Collaborate with business, technical, and enterprise architecture teams.
  • Provide recommendations on data strategy, standards, and best practices.
Required Experience
  • Extensive experience as a Data Architect or Enterprise Data Architect.
  • Strong expertise in Data Warehousing and Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) solutions.
  • Experience with dimensional modeling (Star Schema, Snowflake Schema).
  • Strong data profiling, data analysis, and data mapping experience.
  • Experience designing Facts and Dimensions.
  • Hands-on ETL design, development, and testing experience.
  • Experience with Power BI reporting and analytics solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance, data quality, and metadata management.
  • Experience supporting large-scale enterprise data modernization initiatives.
  • Excellent stakeholder communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Experience
  • IBM Cognos BI experience.
  • Public Sector or Government experience.
  • Experience with court, justice, legal, or public service environments.
  • Experience working with large enterprise reporting platforms and data marts.
Work Arrangement
  • Remote within Canada.
  • Approximately 15% onsite meetings in Edmonton, Alberta.
  • Candidate must be legally authorized to work within Canada.
