Job Description

Join our Hartford team as a Process Mechanical Technical Lead, you will serve as a trusted technical authority on highimpact municipal water and wastewater projects. You will guide multidisciplinary teams, mentor engineers, and translate complex challenges into practical, resilient solutions that benefit communities nationwide.

You will lead the process mechanical vision for projects from concept through delivery, setting standards for quality, constructability, and performance while collaborating closely with project managers, clients, and design teams. You play a critical role in designing and advancing modern water infrastructure.

This position focuses on the mechanical and process systems that power water and wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, and related infrastructure. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys both technical problemsolving and handson project delivery, with opportunities to grow into technical leadership and clientfacing responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities 

  • With general supervision, supports the planning, evaluation, and design of basic to moderatecomplexity process mechanical systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities and pumping infrastructure.
  • Conducts facility assessments and develops recommendations for upgrades, optimization, and alternative concepts.
  • Performs detailed analyses and final designs, including data evaluation, pump and hydraulic calculations, process piping layouts, and sizing and selection of tanks, equipment, and mechanical systems.
  • Collaborates with BIM and design teams to develop coordinated facility layouts and construction drawings.
  • Prepares technical specifications, design documentation, and frontend contract documents for publicly bid projects.
  • Supports water quality evaluations and system modeling activities as needed.
  • Conducts site visits and constructability reviews to confirm design assumptions and ensure alignment with site conditions.
  • Reviews designs and technical reports for compliance with client requirements and applicable federal, state, and local regulations, while ensuring adherence to firm quality standards and design practices.
  • Leads or supports assessment and design activities in a clientfacing capacity, with the ability to function as a Task Manager or Project Technical Leader.
  • Contributes to the firm’s technical knowledge base by developing design guidance, white papers, and technical documentation, and may author or coauthor papers for industry publications.
  • Collaborates with business development teams to support proposals and responses to RFPs.
  • Engages with current and prospective clients to understand technical needs and participates in conferences, workshops, and industry events to support the firm’s visibility.
  • Provides technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, reviewing their work and supporting their professional development.
  • May oversee the work of junior staff on assigned tasks or projects. Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional engineering (PE) license.
  • 7 years of related experience.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
  • The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree

Skills & Abilities
  • Working knowledge of computeraided design and drafting tools, including 3D and 4D modeling practices, with the ability to interpret and apply design outputs effectively.
  • Solid understanding of core engineering principles and their practical application to infrastructure and facility design.
  • Proficient in standard business and technical software, including Microsoft Excel and Word, for data analysis, documentation, and reporting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information to project teams, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated understanding of applicable federal, state, and local regulations, with the ability to incorporate regulatory requirements into engineering designs and project deliverables.
