Job Summary
A receptionist in a medical office is often the first point of contact a patient has with the facility. They are responsible for welcoming patients and visitors by greeting them by either in person or through the telephone. The receptionist optimizes patients' satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments in person or by telephone. This position typically will work in a small organization or office.
Core Job Responsibilities
  • Welcomes and greets patients and visitors, in person or over the phone, answering or referring inquiries
  • Registers new patients and updates existing patient demographics by collecting detailed patient information including personal and financial information
  • Facilitates the flow of patients by notifying the providers of the patient's arrival; reviewing service delivery compared to schedule; reminding provider of service delays
  • Ensures availability of treatment information by filing and retrieving patient records
  • Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information
  • Maintains office inventory and equipment by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies; scheduling equipment service and repairs
  • Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information
  • Completes related work as needed throughout the office

Education/Experience Requirements
Required:
